About the Role & Team

The Senior Manager, Network Engineering is a senior technology leader within ABC News responsible for developing and leading the global network supporting the media production environment for ABC News. This role is responsible for leading the design, implementation, and expansion of innovative network services. This person must be collaborative with peers in other business segments, with their technology peers in support, sustainment, and engineering, and with key partners within ABC News.

What You Will Do

  • Direct an organization of 10+ people including external parties

  • Responsible for the design, configuration, testing, implementation and maintenance of LAN/WAN/Security infrastructure and related services

  • Develop process to identify, diagnose, and resolve network and security related problems as they arise

  • Partner in building complete technical solutions, documentation, and facilitate the handover to the support and sustainment teams

  • Provide direction for multiple segments and disciplines within the larger organization

  • Lead network architecture team regarding network design, layout, evaluation of equipment alternatives, and equipment selection and configuration

  • Partner with Support and Sustainment organizations to direct network operations team regarding maintenance and support of the network

  • Lead operational cost center for their department

  • Plan and lead all aspects of capital initiatives, handling communications with Finance and business leaders as needed

  • Manage broadcast standards-based design requirements in current and future planning of networking designs. Align to other Disney businesses for interoperability.

  • Define the vision for the organization and build a plan to achieve that vision

  • Formalize the expectations for successful functions within the organization, directing and guiding the team in support of those expectations

  • Coach and mentor team members to help them meet and exceed the standards set for the team with ad hoc feedback and individual development plans

  • Provide input into the strategic direction and objectives of not just their team, but of counterparts in Media Engineering

Required Qualifications & Skills 

  • 7+ years network engineering experience

  • 3+ years management experience

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Experience working on and managing software or product teams

  • Experience working in a real-time media production or streaming environment

  • Excellent process management skills

  • Experience directing technical projects

  • Data-driven leader who has used task and project management systems

  • Proficiency in SMPTE and AMWA broadcast standards required for networking in real time workflows. This includes but is not limited to 2110, 2022, and NMOS standards.

  • Knowledge and experience with major Internet routing protocols; specifically, BGP and OSPF

  • Proficient leading long term, project/milestone-based work across multiple cross organizational teams

  • Ability to work nights and weekends

  • Flexibility to travel into the NY/NJ Metro locations when needed

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Cisco CCNP/CCDP or CCIE Certification

  • Arista ACE Certification

  • Electrical or Computer Engineering, or Computer Science preferred 

Education 

  • BS in Engineering or Computer Science or 6+ years' of demonstrated experience in network engineering design, implementation, and documentation


The hiring range for this position in New York is $189,300.00-$253,800 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
