This role is considered Hybrid, which means the employee will work 2-3 days onsite at a Company designated location and occasionally from home.


Position Summary

Core Pipeline is a globally distributed team that develops tools and workflows that act as the foundational infrastructure for ILM’s creative departments at all of our locations around the world. We work closely with CG Production to create innovative tooling for media management, publishing and asset management, developer platforms, and other core services. We work with all levels of artists and supervisors to create efficient, resilient, and artist-friendly software.

Within Core Pipeline, the Data Management Engineering team is responsible for global publishing and data synchronization systems. The Senior Production Engineer is responsible for architecting and developing key aspects of the Visual Effects (VFX) production pipeline. They will be a strong individual contributor and teammate, helping to design and deliver core data management services upon which the VFX pipeline depends.

What You’ll Do

The Data Management team covers a wide array of services and functions. As a Senior Production Engineer you may be required to do some or all of the following:

  • Work closely with development teams to ensure applications are designed for scalability, reliability, and performance.

  • Design, deploy, and maintain distributed, multi-region, highly scalable, reliable services to support publishing and storage management systems.

  • Continuously improve our application infrastructure and processes.

  • Drive discussions around the future of data management at ILM.

  • Provide support in the event of critical service downtime.

What We’re Looking For

We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer with the following qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of Python and the Linux environment.

  • Experience with several relational or NoSQL technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra, ElasticSearch.

  • Experience designing and implementing distributed systems in multi-region environments.

  • Experience working with network and application protocols like NFS, TCP, gRPC, HTTP, etc…

  • Experience and knowledge of working with event sourced systems.

  • Bachelor’s degree, M.Sc, or Ph.D in Computing Science, or equivalent professional experience.

  • A clear and concise communicator: able to keep end users informed of progress and managers informed of requests.

  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.

  • An ownership mentality.

  • Experience working with remote team members.

The following qualifications are a plus:

  • Experience developing with or strong desire to learn Elixir

  • Experience with message queuing systems such as RabbitMQ or Kafka

  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform

  • VFX, Feature Animation or Episodic production experience

The hiring range for this position in Vancouver is C$122,400 to C$156,800 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate's geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A full range of medical, financial, and/or other variable pay or benefits, may be offered dependent on the level and position offered.
