Job Summary:

The Associate Production Editor, National Geographic, manages the editorial production of reprints and performs key functions in the production of frontlist titles, including page checking, checking final fixes, and reviewing bluelines. You will report to the Director of the Managing Editorial Team.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the editorial production of reprints and special sales editions. Coordinate implementation and checking of reprint changes to covers and interiors. Work closely with editors and designers to identify and correct editorial and design problems as needed. Review and route all stages of proof, including performing final check of release proofs and bluelines. This includes "reprints" for special sales, which may involve copyediting/proofreading of updated text and new covers
  • Support editorial production of frontlist titles. Check corrections to proofs from second-pass pages to final fixes. Collate proofreader and author/editor changes. Proofread indexes and credits. Review bluelines. Proofread and verify specs in ads and promotional materials. Input changes to design files as needed. Manage production editing of "conversions": paperback editions of hardcovers, mini editions, etc.
  • Handle tasks including applications for Library of Congress CIP data, creation of bar codes, setting up project folders on server, updating templates.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2+ years publishing experience, managing editorial or production editorial experience.
  • Excellent proofreading skills and familiarity with Chicago Manual of Style.
  • Knowledge of Adobe InDesign.
