The Disneyland Resort Legal Department is seeking qualified candidates for a Deputy Chief Counsel, Head of Legal, Disneyland Resort.
Responsibilities:
Develop strategic direction for the Disneyland Resort legal team, in coordination with legal leadership and demonstrate knowledge of the business and legal issues affecting the Disneyland Resort.
Is the primary legal interface with the business unit leadership and is a member of, and actively advises, the business unit steering committee.
Provide legal and business advice to the business unit leaders – is a thought partner who is solution oriented and demonstrates sound legal and business judgement.
Directly provide legal services to the Disneyland Resort on a wide variety of transactional matters.
Demonstrate sound judgement regarding when and how to consult with others, including when to elevate issues to senior legal and business leadership.
Supervise the legal work performed by 1 Assistant Chief Counsel, 1 Principal Counsel, 2 Associate Principal Counsels and 2 paralegals.
Supervise the Resort Risk Management teams (Guest Claims and Worker’s Compensation).
Supervise the Environmental Compliance team.
Mentor and develop team members.
Basic Qualifications:
A minimum of 15 years of commercial transactional experience
Subject matter expert relating to a wide variety of commercial law practice areas
Demonstrated business acumen and ability to creatively develop business-oriented solutions to complex legal problems in a fast paced, customer facing environment
Excellent negotiation, contract drafting and written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated ability to evaluate risk, to advise various business units of the risks and to exercise sound legal judgment
Proven leadership experience managing teams of attorneys and paralegals
Proven client relationship skills
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts and issues effectively with all levels of management
Demonstrated ability to manage outside counsel and financial budgets
Demonstrated capacity to stay abreast of relevant, emerging trends in the law
Understanding of the theme park, resort and entertainment industry is a plus
Required Education:
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
Admission to the State Bar of California or willingness and qualification to be Registered In-House Counsel in the State of California

The hiring range for this position in California is $277,300 to $371,900 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
