Job Summary:

The ESPN FC associate editor is a full-time position that works across ESPN to create the most accurate, timely and engaging soccer content for fans. Candidates must demonstrate a strong editing background, news judgement and the ability to work within a team. The position requires an understanding of a 24/7 news environment that includes desktop, mobile, social, video and personalized platforms. The ideal candidate will have a strong knowledge of soccer (both club and country competitions) and be able to thrive in a team environment and has a flexible work schedule.  

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with soccer writers to bring a distinctive, compelling and authentic voice to all ESPN FC products. 
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to make content soccer compelling and comprehensive. 
  • Edit soccer stories for journalistic accuracy, audience relevance and tone, including real-time decision-making at various stages of content development. 
  • Establish proficiency and knowledge in latest trends, technology and best practices for social media. 
  • Establish proficiency and knowledge for SEO best practices. 
  • Ensure all soccer content meets established tone, theme, accuracy, style and consistency requirements. 

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in editorial and content creation. 
  • Understanding and appreciation of news, story play and trending topics. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and news judgment. 
  • Basic knowledge of global soccer. 
  • Appreciation of popular culture and contributes to an understanding of the tastes of ESPN’s audiences. 

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS

  • Demonstrated communication and organizational skills.
  • Appreciation for and understanding of global soccer. 
  • Skilled in interpreting and applying data to decision making. 
  • Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish

PREFERRED EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in Journalism, Communications, English or a related field.

The hiring range for this position in California is $58,700 to $78,600 per year based on a 40-hour work week. The amount of hours scheduled per week may vary based on business needs. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
