Job Summary:

Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution (DMED) brings together the Company’s best-in-class product, technology, and commercialization teams together into one global organization. As part of DMED Technology, the DMED Consumer Experiences & Platforms pillar is responsible for creating the consumer facing applications across ABC, ABC News, the Disney Channel, ESPN, FX, National Geographic, Marvel, and more.

For a new team, we’re looking for experienced developers who are interested in building the next generation of our consumer experiences. Our mission is to envision, champion, and deliver new and unique experiences across our portfolio in close partnership with our product and engineering teams. We want someone that has come up through product-focused software development ranks - possessing 7 or more years’ experience in designing and architecting high quality, secure, performant, and usable consumer web/mobile applications leveraging cloud infrastructure. The ideal candidate would possess deep skills in building client application for modern mobile OSes like iOS or Android, CTV/OTT platforms like Roku, tvOS, or Android TV, or modern web applications using frameworks like React.

Our initial focus will be on ESPN, so if you’re a sports fan who cares about building great products, this team will give you the opportunity to define and deliver experiences only ESPN and the Walt Disney Company can pull together. With our deep archives of sports information, content, and editorial talent, there’s no better place to push the boundaries of what’s possible in sports.

The ESPN Fantasy Sports team is looking for a Lead iOS Software Engineer to help us build ground-breaking digital experiences. As a Lead engineer you will be a key member of a growing team of engineers working with team members across disciplines developing features and systems for the ESPN Fantasy app. You’ll interact daily with our product managers to understand our domain and create technical solutions that push us forward.

The ideal candidate is a practiced engineer with the ability and desire to provide leadership and develop well-designed architectures. They must be self-directed and comfortable managing the needs of a variety of stakeholders, team members and contractors.

Responsibilities:

  • Build well-designed, well-engineered, stable, performant native iOS applications using Swift.
  • Manage and participate in the software development lifecycle, including the planning, development, testing, release, and live ops stages
  • Write unit and integration tests for your code
  • Work both independently and collaborate with a team of engineers with peer reviews to learn from and teach one another.
  • Partner with business stakeholders to deliver features on time and to specifications
  • Provide detailed estimates of work and ensure timely delivery of features.
  • Continuously learn and keep up to date with emerging technologies to evaluate impact to business and member value.
  • Deliver an outstanding experience for our Guests.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of full software development lifecycle experience
  • Deep understanding and proficiency in building iOS mobile apps in either Swift or Objective-C.
  • Strong knowledge of iOS UI design principles, patterns, and best practices.
  • Passionate about writing clean, well-organized, and production-ready code.
  • Experience working with Git version control, or equivalent, in a collaborative team environment, creating pull requests and performing code reviews.
  • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams of product managers, designers, and engineers.
  • Be organized and able to remain productive even when you have multiple deliverables.
  • BS or BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience using Google's Firebase or Firestore
  • Experience with C#/Unity
  • Working knowledge of Javascript
  • Experience with multiple mobile platforms
  • Full-stack development experience
