A critical role in the Media Engineering function, The Media Engineer III is an advanced support-engineering role dedicated to the day-to-day maintenance and triage of our broadcast environment’s most critical infrastructure. RF engineers are highly specialized individuals who focus on various forms of content distribution. They are highly trained engineers with a strong understanding of advanced electronics as related to media engineering principles.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversees and manages all aspects surrounding the set-up, testing, and successful operation of the broadcast-transmission equipment necessary to facilitate the broadcast of live and pre-recorded events
  • Provides engineering support of broadcast infrastructure including transmission and RF equipment; using expertise to perform in-depth troubleshooting and on-the-spot repairs as well as managing interactions with vendors when external services are necessary. This includes performing regular software and hardware updates
  • Responds to system outages, malfunctions, and related technical problems, and conducts diagnostic testing, repair, and replacement activities necessary to solve routine, specialized, and complex problems
  • Maintains up to date operational procedures to support daily productions and emergency recovery scenarios while developing effective preventative maintenance and diagnostic/solutions, techniques, and procedures
  • Design, maintain, assemble antenna systems, waveguide, cable, and fiber optic systems
  • Participates in planning for the facility infrastructure; participates in evaluating new technologies, as well as in researching network and system configurations for future implementation of all systems
  • Monitors project progress and periodically updates project schedules, noting the achievement of milestones and issues requiring resolution
  • All other duties as assigned by Leadership

Basic Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in, Broadcast Engineering with equivalent experience in Satellite Communications/Broadcast RF Communications
  • Extensive knowledge of television production hardware, software, systems and specifications, TCP/IP protocols on servers and workstations, systems management, and server administration.
  • Advance demonstrated IT skills including TCP/IP networking concepts and equipment, storage systems, redundant computer system concepts, administration, etc.
  • Experience in the use of specialized electronic test and monitoring equipment including spectrum analyzers, oscilloscopes, network analyzers, broadcast scopes, and transport stream analyzers.
  • Previous experience with engineering level support of audio and video software and applications including, but not limited to,
    • Newtec M6100 and AZ-110 Modulators
    • 8PSK 5/6 DVBS2, 16APSK 7/8 DVBS2X modulation types
    • Arris Digichiper, Rockstar, SE3000, ME7000, and MediaKind nCompass encryption systems
    • Newtec M6100 and AZ-110 Modulators
    • 8PSK 5/6 DVBS2, 16APSK 7/8 DVBS2X modulation types
    • Arris Digichiper, Rockstar, SE3000, ME7000, and MediaKind nCompass encryption systems
    • Earth Station Equipment
    • Evertz EXE / EQX Video Routing systems
    • Grass Valley/Ross Video Production Switchers
    • Lawo audio production systems / Riedel and RTS communication systems
    • Audio standards (AES / Embedded SDI / Dolby)
    • SCSI, Fibre Channel, SAN, NAS, RAID, and I/O Storage Sub-Systems
  • Demonstrating an ability to interface with clients and other departments
  • Physical requirements and work environment: Ability to climb ladders, work on raised structures and building roofs, operate areal lift platforms, operate a forklift

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous work on High Visibility events for a major media network.
  • SBE, SMPTE, or equivalent certifications.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills

Preferred Education

  • A Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Information Technology, or a minimum of 6 years of experience in a media/broadcast environment as described above.
