Marvel Studios Animation is hiring.

This is an IATSE 839 position covered by a collective bargaining agreement.

The FX department is responsible for creating the 2D/3D visual effects of the movie, from smoke and fire to wet hair and objects colliding. This position is in the Art Department and will report to the Production Designer. Artist will be lead on design and potentially animation of key and hero FX for episodes, as well as working with vendor teams to supervise execution of FX in all episodes. 2D FX Artists should have a strong sense of design and graphic appeal.

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate a broad range of hand drawn 2D FX abilities in a collaborative environment

  • Create hand-drawn, consistent, and stylized FX

  • Design key and hero FX prior to shot production

  • Oversight / direction of vendor FX teams throughout shot production

  • Follow pipeline and workflow standards and problem solve with Background and Compositing Teams

  • Create natural and supernatural effects (ie. water, smoke, dust, lightning, bubbles, fire, storms, shadows, blurs, explosions, etc) which contribute to the scene

  • Maintain and communicate a strong knowledge of innovative FX animation technologies

  • Communicate sound solutions to technical and creative issues

  • Actively participate in team/department meetings

  • Be ready to work in iterations and improve effects by addressing notes from supervisors

Basic Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in similar capacity on 2D animated TV series an asset

  • Strong knowledge of 2D animation principles and familiarity with high-end anime 2DFX style

  • Knowledge of 3D package or compositing software a plus

  • Basic understanding of light and color
