Job Summary:

Walt Disney Television Legal Affairs is searching for an attorney to work in the role of Counsel to manage program content clearance, and assist with consumer insights/research related legal work pertaining to its multiple television networks and related digital platforms, including, Disney Channel, Disney Junior, Disney XD, Freeform, and FX Networks. This person will work independently, and with senior attorneys and paralegals, while continuing to develop legal expertise, judgment and capacity to work independently on more complex matters. This person will also be the primary legal counsel responsible for the review, analysis, and clearance of all Walt Disney Television program content for exhibition on a wide variety of internal and external distribution platforms across multiple territories.

Responsibilities:

  • Reviewing, analyzing, and summarizing relevant contractual provisions, including, but not limited to, content exhibition rights, in a wide variety of agreements and documents.
  • Reviewing, drafting and negotiating consumer insights/research related agreements, amendments and other legal documentation, including but not limited to, software licenses, professional services agreements, software as a service agreements, non-disclosure agreements, and software/system evaluation agreements.
  • Providing analysis and advice in connection with content clearance, legal rights and obligations, consumer insights/research deal structures, and related claims, audits and other matters.
  • Establishing and maintaining content clearance, and consumer insights/research agreement best practices, protocols, and databases.
  • Responding to and assisting with Walt Disney Disney Television content clearance requests from legal and business partners across the company.
  • Consulting, coordinating, and collaborating with legal and business partners across the company on agreements, matters and initiatives pertaining to content clearance and consumer insights/research.
  • Ongoing development of clearance and legal expertise, as well as judgment and capacity to work independently on more complex legal matters.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of legal experience at a reputable law firm and/or in-house legal department. Previous in-house experience at a network or studio is preferred.
  • Familiarity with and interest in content clearance and consumer insights/research related matters.
  • Experience drafting and negotiating agreements, preferably consumer insights/research related agreements.
  • Experience reviewing and analyzing program agreements for clearance purposes based on a solid understanding of content distribution platforms.
  • Fast learner with excellent client service, including project ownership from start to finish.
  • Strong analytical skills including the ability to identify and analyze issues and devise solutions and strategies.
  • Ability to work independently, with strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent writing, speaking and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate complex concepts and issues effectively with all levels and management.
  • Initiative and attention to detail.
  • Team oriented with a positive “can do” attitude and a solution oriented approach to legal issues.
  • Ability to multi-task and work quickly and collaboratively under tight deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and other office-related software.

Required Education

Law degree from an accredited law school. Active bar membership required (California is strongly preferred).
