Job Summary:

The Director, Communications (DMED) is a seasoned communications leader with experience driving media relations, corporate communications, executive engagement, and public affairs/reputational management plans for consumer-facing digital technology products—such as streaming services, advertising sales and content licensing—and/or multi-national entertainment brands.

The position will report into the Vice President, Communications, DMED, and will work closely with media, industry partners, as well as cross-functional DMED and Corporate Communications teams to enhance and uphold the integrity of the DMED brand in alignment with Company values. The ideal candidate will be highly motivated, have a track record of working with media and industry stakeholders to proactively elevate reputation, build and execute strategic communications plans, manage crisis comms efforts, build trusted and collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders, have strong press contacts, and is able to deliver in a fast-paced environment.


  • Collaborate across DMED’s businesses to drive reputation strategy focused on proactively communicating the segment’s vision to media, third-party stakeholders, external partners, consumers, and employees, while mitigating reputational risks based on market dynamics worldwide.
  • Drive DMED narrative forward by strategically conceptualizing positioning stories and securing media coverage across a wide variety of outlets in key publications.
  • Lead crisis communications response efforts through monitoring relevant breaking news and providing actionable insights and information.
  • Operationally lead collaboration of all DMED Communications teams around common framework and plan where campaign unification is beneficial to DMED’s reputation.
  • Drive industry speaking engagement and awards strategy forward by identifying key opportunities and establishing cross-DMED programming at industry events to further our business strategy with key partners.
  • Manage strategic communications plans to elevate Diversity, Equity and Inclusion efforts focused on the consumer, suppliers, vendors etc. in close collaboration with cross-segment teams.
  • Collaborate with Government Relations and Global Public Policy teams to support issue solutions and policy positions, while protecting the interests of DMED’s business.
  • Drive a strategic approach to media monitoring, trend reporting, industry developments and news, while communicating marketing intelligence and insights to key stakeholders.
  • Lead in the development of external communications platforms for the business and leadership aligned with communications priorities.
  • Nurture and maintain media relationships to advance DMED/TWDC business strategy; prepare spokespeople for interviews with messaging, background, etc.
  • Craft a consistent approach to communications measurement and reporting for the segment.
  • Assess and centralize cross-DMED Communication tools/accounts, manage renewals, and maintain relationships with third party account reps.
  • Stay on the pulse of various issues and trends that could affect our business and work quickly to update teams.
  • Draft reactive messaging, written materials, media pitches, briefing documents, and presentations tied to crises, vulnerabilities, and areas of opportunity.
  • Help maintain cross-DMED editorial calendars, messaging archives, and media resources.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of corporate communications experience with a studio, network, streaming service or technology company.
  • Working knowledge of content distribution models including direct-to-consumer apps, broadcasting platforms, digital platforms and pay networks.
  • Has strong business, consumer, tech, and entertainment press contacts with demonstrated experience driving an organizations vision forward externally.
  • Excellent writing, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills with maturity and confidence in working with colleagues at all levels including executives.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders, prioritize deadlines and effectively work through challenges in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exhibits a positive attitude and a multi-tasking team player.
  • Strong writer, with ability to master an executive's voice, while directing others in the development of executive communications.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams, while maintaining alignment with vision, strategy, and business goals.
  • A key requirement of this role is the ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Crisis communications experience managing messaging and brand reputation with demonstrated ability to stay calm in high pressure situations.
  • Strong verbal and writing skills, with demonstrated ability to effectively deliver information in a complex, multi-business global company.
  • Creativity, diplomacy, and ability to juggle heavy volume of diverse projects, including both strategic and tactical assignments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with consumer-facing digital technology products such as streaming services, advertising sales and content licensing.
  • Experience with cutting-edge communications practices and technologies; understanding of new technologies and applications in the electronic messaging and communications field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with various social media platforms.
  • Familiarity and knowledge of content distributed by Disney and an appreciation for the brand a plus!

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field or equivalent work experience.

Preferred Education

Master's Degree in Communications or related field.

This role is considered hybrid, which means the employee will work a portion of their time on-site from a Company designated location and the remainder of their time remotely.
