Job Summary:

Comprised of Disney’s international media businesses and the Company’s various streaming services, the Direct-to-Consumer and International (DTCI) segment aligns technology, content and distribution platforms to expand the Company’s global footprint and deliver world-class, personalized entertainment experiences to consumers around the world.

The Walt Disney Company’s Direct-to-Consumer and International segment (DTCI) is a global, multiplatform media, technology and distribution organization for high-quality content created by Disney’s Studio Entertainment and Media Networks groups.

DTCI includes Disney’s international media operations and the Company’s direct-to-consumer businesses globally, including the upcoming Disney-branded direct-to-consumer streaming service, the Company’s ownership stake in Hulu, and the ESPN+ sports streaming service, programmed in partnership with ESPN. BAMTECH Media, developer of the ESPN+ and Disney-branded streaming platforms, oversees all consumer-facing digital technology and products across the Company as part of the Direct-to-Consumer and International segment.

The Data Quality team partners with the Product Management and Engineering functions of the Data Platform team as well as with legal, privacy and the industry group to ensure consistent, trustworthy data across all of DTCI and TWDC. The group creates strategy designed to ensure quality data that is also secure and compliant with internal and legal standards. The group works with other groups within the DTCI technology organization to implement the data quality strategy within platform components, reporting and analytics, tools and compliance standards.· This Director, Data Quality is a leadership position within the Data Platforms group of The Walt Disney Company’s Direct-to-Consumer and International Technology (DTCI) division. This role reports to the Senior Vice President, Data Platforms.

Responsibilities:

  • Providing leadership for the data quality and governance strategy and analysis functions within the DTCI Data Platforms team. This includes working with existing data governance functions within The Walt Disney Company as well as developing the data governance strategy, policies and standards, and key risk metrics.
  • Partner with the Vice President, Data Platforms Product Management and Vice President, Data
  • Platforms Engineering on the product strategy, platform capabilities, tools and deliverables necessary to imbue the platform the proper set of complete, compliant and secure data
  • Presenting within the technical domain to and partnering with individual engineers, analysts andexecutives.
  • Defining and delivering against data governance policies and procedures in a federated and complex organizational construct using a combination of influence and authority to execute broad strategic objectives.
  • Educate and influence senior technology and business leadership in the data quality domain, articulating conceptual ideas and their impact to a widely divergent audience using excellent verbal, written, and listening skills.
Specific Responsibilities
  • Define the data quality strategy and liaise to ensure proper implementation
  • Define and implement data governance structure, policies and procedures and ensure compliance; implement control functions and KPIs to monitor compliance
  • Ensure rigorous data management standards. Identify and address existing data quality issues and implement road maps for tactical and strategic enhancements
  • Develop data classification standards. Oversee data classification, definition, and proactive data quality. Build an awareness program and implement the policies. Integrate data classification standards into related policies and procedures
  • Define and implement detailed standards, aligned to support all underlying data systems
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to user data.
  • Document the security and privacy requirements for different categories of TWDC and DTCI data

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience with data warehouse, database and data management concepts, processes, tools and technologies including BI, Big Data, ETL and MPP databases preferred
  • Excellent communication skills (oral and written) and organizational skills
  • Able to communicate at multiple levels ranging from front-line personnel to C-level executives
  • Demonstrates deep understanding of database related audit and compliance goals and processes
  • Must possess the proven ability to assess information security, policies and procedures and operational risk
  • Background in data and information management projects, operating in a highly complex and regulated environment
  • Develop data classification standards. Oversee data classification, definition, and proactive data quality. Build an awareness program and implement the policies. Integrate data classification standards into related policies and procedures
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements related to user data

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree, with equivalent work experience in MIS, Computer Science or related discipline.
