Job Summary:

Part of the Walt Disney Company's Media & Entertainment Distribution (DMED) segment, Disney Music Group (DMG) is the music hub for TWDC, encompassing all aspects of music commercialization and marketing: recorded music (Walt Disney Records and Hollywood Records), Disney Music Publishing, and Disney Concerts. DMG distributes music both physically and digitally, and also licenses music throughout the world in various forms of media including television, print, gaming, and consumer products.

The Manager, Data Analytics is responsible for Disney Music Group’s (DMG) data, reporting and quantitative research, and serves as the data analytics partner to cross-functional teams, providing insights to inform planning and decisions across the DMG business areas. To support these areas, the role will develop a deep understanding of user behaviors within music marketing, discovery, and consumptions channels and how these channels are influenced by emerging technologies and platforms.

The right person for this role has a deep interest and aptitude in data, metrics, analysis, and trends and has applied knowledge of measurement and statistics. The role will be expected to translate business questions into analytical methodologies, utilizing tools such as Spark, Python, and SQL to dive deep into the data to answer the questions. The role will need to communicate effectively, distilling insights into concise and compelling data-driven stories, and socialize broadly with audiences across various levels and functions.

Responsibilities :

  • Contribute to strategic initiatives and company priorities such as product releases or new business opportunities by providing analytical perspective on metrics, competitive factors, and performance drivers
  • Conduct content performance and audience analysis for products releases, including artist album launches, film and series premieres. Develop and track key metrics to measure success
  • Perform market research and competitive analysis to inform product opportunities, folding the research into the pertinent workstreams
  • Support data-informed business strategies by applying data mining, quantitative analysis, and presentation of data to elevate key themes and answer business questions across varied business areas
  • Be the partner for cross-functional stakeholders to understand performance, digging into the data to drive meaningful and actionable insights
  • Own the reporting for company priorities. Provide ongoing reporting and analysis to inform and support business, product, marketing, and sales decisions
  • Partner with Technology and Product teams to execute on data projects
  • Lead and mentor a team member, setting priorities to maximize impact in the organization

Basic Qualifications :

  • 5+ years analytics experience
  • 2+ years management experience
  • Passion for building clear, concise, and meaningful metrics
  • Proven track record of leveraging data to deliver business value and presenting data-driven insights to business audiences
  • Expertise manipulating large, transaction level data sets and interpreting data trends from multiple disparate data sources
  • Experience employing statistical models and analyses in an industry setting for business use cases
  • Mastery in advanced SQL, large-scale data and numerical computing languages (PySpark)
  • Proficient in data visualization tools (Tableau/Looker)
  • Strong experience documenting data requirements, rules and, assumptions
  • Experience communicating analytical concepts to a wide range of audiences
  • Experience influencing and partnering with stakeholders across the organization
  • Strong time management with ability to work in a fast-paced environment across multiple priorities
  • Strong attention to detail without losing sight of broader objectives
  • Track record of operating independently, demonstrating creativity, and delivering results
  • Strong familiarity with music streaming services (Spotify, Apple, Amazon Music, YouTube), social media platforms (TikTok, FB/Instagram) and emerging technologies (digital assistants/voice)

Preferred Qualifications :

  • Experience data mining in distributed systems (Spark/Databricks)
  • Experience implementing supervised and unsupervised learning techniques
  • Experience building, managing and motivating teams in strategic support functions
  • Experience working with data in the entertainment industry
  • Experience working with media performance data

Required Education :

  • Master’s degree in an analytical field including Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Business Analytics, Economics, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related quantitative field
