- This role is considered hybrid, which means the employee will work a portion of their time on-site from a Company designated location and the remainder of their time remotely.

From movie concept to film production. You will innovate and deliver solutions that support a studio whose content is legendary and transcends generations.

We’re looking for passionate engineering Leader who understands new technologies at a rapid pace. You should be intimately familiar with production systems and be able to anticipate what your engineering team needs next to fulfill the next task. You will lead a lean, agile, self-sufficient team that knows how to operate and that provides production tools and cutting-edge solutions for all of the studios under the Disney umbrella. 

To be successful in this role, you must be innovative, a quick learner, have a strong understanding of systems, storage motion picture production workflows, you must also be an excellent communicator and work well in large cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities:

  • You will have a demonstrated ability to establish a technical vision and to execute on it.

  • You have exceptional experience in building and leading engineering teams.

  • You have a keen eye for strong engineering talent.

  • You lead and collaborate with engineers to ensure systems are designed to be scalable, and easily operated.

  • You design, and deploy film-maker systems, including on-Prem Show Kits with Cloud hybrid workflows.

  • You design and deploy systems in production timelines with high availability, and clear observability on-prem and in Cloud.

  • You serve as an escalation point to troubleshoot and resolve performance and reliability issues in production environments.

  • You ensure security best practice is at the forefront is embedded in our DNA and in all solutions provided.

  • You are effective at dealing with change: Able to transition in role or handle a significant modification or technology with minimal ramp-up time and with very little guidance.

  • You thrive in an outage situation and naturally drive the team towards a solution.  

  • You are comfortable leading initiatives and presenting to large groups.

  • You comply with corporate policy and remediate any compliance issues.

  • You have a thorough knowledge of monitoring/alerting tools to improve engineering response times.

  • You have experience authoring and driving Root Cause Analysis (RCAs) documentation.

  • You have a “Fail Fast” mentality.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Science in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering

  • 3+ years in managing engineering teams

  • 10+ years implementing solutions supporting Film/TV production with an emphasis on automation and security

Technical Requirements

Deep knowledge of:

  • Operating systems and systems management (e.g. Linux, OSX, and Windows)

  • Data center, network, and show application architectures.

  • Cloud deployments in Azure and AWS.

  • Scripting and development languages, including Python, Ruby, PERL, PHP

  • Playback systems used in visual effects, production and postproduction environments (e.g. Colorfront, Resolve, TweakRV, Clipster)

  • High performance file systems used in production (OneFS, StorNext, GPFS)

  • High performance storage solutions used in production (Quantum, Avid, DDN)

  • Media File Transport Solutions (e.g. Signiant, Aspera)

  • Hosting virtualization technologies (e.g. VMWare, KVM)

  • Production Security Systems (e.g. key management, encryption, vulnerability management)

Desired practical experience:

  • Managing highly diverse engineering teams in fast pace environments

  • Strong project management and resource planning experience

  • Experience working in Film or TV production environments

  • Knowledge of VFX pipeline and workflows

  • Analytical, organizational and decision-making skills

  • File System or hierarchical file system concepts

  • Content Management System

  • Smart, self-driven with a keen focus on and track record of exceptional delivery of innovative solutions

  • Familiar with public cloud environments (e.g. AWS, Google Cloud Compute)

  • Exposure to system management languages (e.g. Chef, Terraform, Ansible)

  • Operating systems and systems management (e.g. CentOS, Ubuntu, Windows)

  • Authentication toolsets such as Active Directory, LDAP, Ping Identity

  • Data center, network, and application architectures
