Responsibilities:

  • Collecting and analyzing data sets, developing insights, interpreting results, building appropriate models
  • Performing the responsibilities of the Statistics and Data Science Specialization and preferably at least some of the responsibilities of one of the other Analytics Specializations listed below
  • Using formal and informal methods to synthesize information from multiple sources (including 1st data sources and the results and reports of team projects but also the results of 3rd party measurement as well as 3rd party scholarship) so as to gain a clearer understanding of consumers, consumer journeys and the role of marketing and media in driving business results
  • Communicating key findings, insights and knowledge to team members, partners, and business stakeholders
  • Understanding, maintaining and utilizing projects and tools built by the Marketing Science and partner teams to achieve better marketing and media outcomes
  • Continuing to learn about marketing and the media / entertainment industries (see Marketing, Media, and Industry Knowledge Topics below) while maintaining and refining technical skills
  • Using combined understanding of marketing / media and advanced analytics to advise on KPIs for measurement and interpret marketing / media reporting
  • Using combined understanding of marketing / media and advanced analytics to propose and investigate new ways to use formal / mathematical models, research, and / or experimentation to improve marketing or media performance
  • Providing technical leadership on at least one ongoing Marketing Science project
  • Being a resource on technical matters—especially data science—for other members of the Marketing Science team
  • Works with vendors or partners under the direction of leadership

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3-8 of related professional experience or graduate-level academic training that includes coursework in relevant areas of mathematics (including but not limited to statistics and probability)
  • Some demonstrated knowledge of media and marketing as well as a desire to learn more
  • Desire to learn about the entertainment / media industries
  • Reasonable level of business acumen in addition to very strong technical skills
  • Proven creative problem-solving, decision-making and critical thinking skills
  • Demonstrated good interpersonal skills, including ability to partner with others to handle multiple priorities in a rapidly changing environment
  • Demonstrated strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to simplify complex analytics into clear recommendations that are easily understood and executable
  • Ability to work independently as well as across teams in a diverse, international, collaborative environment
  • Appropriate leadership skills for a technical position
  • Proven ability to organize, prioritize, and balance concurrent projects and sustainment activities
  • Demonstrated technical knowledge in areas related to data science including understanding of the mathematics behind statistical and machine learning models
  • Advanced proficiency in acquiring, organizing, cleansing, manipulating, and merging large volumes of data
  • Advanced proficiency in performing exploratory quantitative analysis
  • Advanced proficiency in fitting, evaluating, and interpreting relevant statistical or machine learning models
  • Proficiency with SQL, and advanced proficiency with R or Python
  • Demonstrated experience using big data technologies for data science—particularly Spark
  • Demonstrated experience with Tableau or other data visualization tool

Required Education

  • Bachelor's degree with significant academic exposure to formal or quantitative methods
  • Graduate degree (Master’s or Doctorate) in a quantitative discipline directly related to data science such as Statistics, Applied Statistics, Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, Computer Science, or Data Science is a great asset
  • Demonstrated academic achievement in statistics and probability (typically involving graduate-level coursework)
