The Networks and Business Operations Legal Team (NET-BOLT) partners with various businesses across the Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution division. We are responsible for advising the TV networks, including ABC and its owned stations, ESPN, Disney, FX, Freeform, and National Geographic, as well as the streaming services, including Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+, on all of their business operations. Our legal work spans content acquisition, corporate strategy, data, marketing, media buying, licensing, franchise management, content review, and a number of other transactional and counseling matters.

Job Overview: NET-BOLT is looking for a paralegal to support multiple lawyers within NET-BOLT by providing legal support in connection with a variety of subject matter and functional areas served by NET-BOLT. This position will work with lawyers and relevant internal client groups, including editorial, content operations, intellectual property, clearance, licensing, franchise management, employment privacy, security, business affairs, sales, technology, regulatory, labor relations, tax, and music, and on a wide range of deals and strategic initiatives for NET-BOLT. The role requires someone who can assist in reviewing, negotiating, and drafting various agreements. This person will also conduct research, and develop, and maintain standard forms and databases.

A sincere interest in learning about a wide variety of media business units and the ability to support and collaborate with in-house business clients and other members of the legal team is essential.

Responsibilities:

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Assisting with negotiating, preparing, drafting, proofing, and summarizing a variety of documents and agreements, including, but not limited to, licensing, events, production, talent, and contributor agreements such as writer, photographer, graphic artist agreements, as well as personal and location releases and material license agreements.
  • Reviewing, redrafting and redlining agreements, meeting minutes, memoranda and other documents.
  • Researching rights and developing and maintaining standard forms and databases, including, but not limited to those related to content, name, likeness, and merchandising
  • Interacting with various internal business clients and external talent and representatives.
  • Handling all materials and matters with confidentiality and discretion.
  • Supporting NET-BOLT with other duties and projects, as assigned.

Basic Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of paralegal experience, preferably in media.
  • Significant attention to detail and skilled in spotting issues and errors in legal documents.
  • Excellent writing skills.
  • Proficiency with legal database set up and management.
  • Can confidently handle project ownership from start to finish.
  • Capable of multi-tasking and meeting deadlines within a challenging, fast-paced, results-oriented environment.
  • Ability to exercise judgment to appropriately discern when to escalate issues.
  • Ability to maintain a positive attitude while working under pressure.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage and support multiple lawyers, client groups, legal processes and forms of documentation.
  • Must be a team player and self-starter.

Required Education

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent work experience.
  • ABA-approved Paralegal Certificate or a Paralegal by education and work experience as set forth by California Business and Profession Code, Section 6450 (c)
