Job Summary:

Disney Platform Distribution is a business unit within Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution (DMED) that manages all third-party media sales efforts for distribution, affiliate marketing and affiliate-related business operations for all of the Company's direct-to-consumer services and linear media networks; content sales agreements for General Entertainment, Studios and Sports; as well as global theatrical film distribution; management of Disney’s iconic El Capitan Theatre and the Disney Music Group.


This person will assist the Commercial Affairs team with first-party and third-party content distribution deal negotiations and track key deal terms across Disney Content Sales and Disney Direct-To-Consumer services, with a specific focus on international markets and business.
  • Support the Commercial Affairs, Sales, Legal and Deal Management teams with global content distribution deal negotiations for international regions/territories, intercompany licenses, and other international television and digital distribution businesses by market, as needed
  • Liaise frequently with international Sales, Sales Strategy and Sales Management teams on content licensing opportunities and rights renewals/inquiries, as well as ad hoc rights and content-related requests as needed
  • Coordinate approvals and consultations of third party licenses with key talent and production stakeholders
  • Support Commercial Affairs team in rights renewal discussions and extensions, as well as new and legacy distribution deals negotiated with third parties
  • Support Content Management team and Direct-To-Consumer team by assisting with preparing and tracking talent consultation & approvals, including editing, branding, promotion and marketing limitations with respect to international markets
  • Track standard language and positions with respect to corporate policies and international content licensing parameters (e.g., standard language for term-sheets and contracts, individual regional content utility allowances and parameters)
  • Track key deals and deal terms across international markets (e.g., rights grants, MFNs, usage rules, expirations, rights of first refusal, etc.)
  • Summarize legal agreements on an ad hoc basis for deal analysis team, Burbank senior management, audits, Finance and Commercial Affairs needs
  • Draft and redline term sheets and other legal agreements as needed

Basic Qualifications:

  • Requires strong interest and/or experience in international business, with specific focus on local or global content distribution, as well as familiarity with international broadcasters and digital content platforms/distributors. J.D. or paralegal certificate (or equivalent), and 1+ years of experience in legal and/or business affairs at a Major Studio, preferably in content distribution, a plus.
  • Experience negotiating content license agreements preferred.
  • Requires proven ability to work and collaborate across various functional divisions, as well as strong strategic thinking.
  • Experience developing and enforcing content licensing strategies and policies preferred. Prior experience with rights management databases preferred.
  • Prior experience with Rightsline and NetDocs preferred
