Job Summary:

The Sr. Manager of Publicity for National Geographic/Disney Documentary Films is responsible for leading well-executed campaigns that result in press coverage, industry praise, and awards buzz for documentary features and short films. The Sr. Manager will work within the Publicity team to create, strategize and execute publicity and awards plans to support distribution of a wide range of documentaries.


  • Work with the VP, Publicity to develop specific and detailed strategies from theatrical to streaming release
  • Work in tandem with awards team and agencies to position films for awards success
  • Lead calls with film teams and partners, providing campaign updates
  • Coordinate with content team on festival strategy and talent attendance
  • Develop written materials including press releases, press notes, fact sheets, awards submissions, talking points and remarks
  • Facilitate and cover press interviews and junkets throughout the campaign, including festival, theatrical and streaming
  • Work in partnership with our events team and/or agency partners to create successful press and awards events including theatrical premieres and FYCs
  • Maintain publicity timelines and talent schedules, keeping information up to date in real time
  • Cover talent appearances at press and industry events, including festivals, premieres and panels
  • Work across other departments including social and marketing to ensure campaign alignment and messaging
  • Track publicity and awards budgets

Basic Qualifications:

  • Experience within the film or documentary space
  • Experience managing awards campaigns
  • Strong ownership and accountability - able to roll-up your sleeves and to take ownership to make things happen. Ease of work style to do and lead others to effective outcomes.
  • Able to thrive in a highly agile, fast-paced environment with multiple workstreams and tight deadlines.
  • Global mindset and experience working across geographies, cultures and time zones

Required Education:

  • Bachelor's degree and 10 years of related experience in public relations or communications
