Walt Disney Animation Studio’s Animation Research Library (ARL) houses a collection of more than 65,000,000 pieces of physical artwork, as well as a rapidly growing collection of born-digital artwork – currently estimated at 4.9 petabytes - which includes, but is not limited to, conceptual art, storyboards, maquettes, hand-drawn production artwork, 3-dimensional models, textures, image files, and final rendered images.
Over a million pieces of artwork have been scanned and ingested into a proprietary web application and more are being added daily. Based on our experiences so far, there are a number of projects that we would like to implement to improve our workflow, the user experience, and the performance of the application.
We are seeking a Senior Software Engineer with great people skills and a proven ability to deliver intuitive and efficient web applications. The successful candidate must be able to work with minimal supervision producing sustainable, documented code with appropriate unit tests, and must provide transparency regarding the rationale, processes, and techniques used.
This role will be based out of the Burbank/Glendale, California area. However, remote work is possible in this role.
This position is for a twelve-month web application and data migration project. Please be aware that employment will cease at the end of the project. The primary goal will be to migrate data from a digital asset management system that was built in-house to a new collections management system.
Previous experience and proficiency in the following technologies and techniques is required:
* Extensive experience with the migration of data from one type of system to another via REST API calls and/or direct database access.
* Fluent in different data formats and different types of databases
* Experience with WordPress installations in a production environment.
* Strong UNIX/Linux or Mac experience
* Exemplary communication and interpersonal skills, especially working with multi-disciplinary teams and with management.
- Background or interest in photography or art
- Experience with Mediawiki
- Experience with Adobe Photoshop
- Remote location possible
