Job Summary:

This position is responsible for strategic development and implementation of internal communications for Disney’s Media and Entertainment Distribution (DMED) segment. This role serves as a strategic employee communications thought leader and partner while also leading Communications Operations. In collaboration with the DMED segment head of communication, the TWDC Corporate Communications team, and Human Resources leadership, this role will formulate an integrated communications vision and strategy, and lead a talented team of professionals to help implement and expand it.
  • Primary focus on leading the internal communications and communication operations teams in planning and activating internal communications campaigns designed to inform, engage and inspire the DMED’s segment’s workforce.
  • Work closely with key client groups across DMED to learn about business priorities, develop strategic campaigns in order to best to share them with employees, and then artfully activate approved plans.
  • Creative, thoughtful and energetic, able to garner commitment and cooperation from others at all levels, and thrives in a collaborative high-paced environment.
  • Implement best practices for communicating business information and communications programs that inform, influence and inspire within and across departments.
  • Responsible for taking advantage of big and small opportunities to help build the segment’s corporate culture in creative and resourceful ways which could include: employee-generated videos, executive engagement, and much more.
  • Drive innovation through influence (not authority) and comfortably navigate a complex corporate environment while supporting an iconic global brand. Develop credibility, rapport and support with all key internal and external stakeholders as a persuasive and energetic communicator who is engaging and effective in both their written and speaking presentations.
  • Responsible for providing communications support to the HR organization and other functional support areas.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop an engaged, highly capable DMED Internal Communications & Operations team that serves as a “center of excellence” within the DMED Communications team.
    • Develop and execute large-scale strategies, communicating on complex topics – including but limited to DMED’s values, business priorities, employee culture and experience, stakeholder engagement, human resources, finance, and the evolving business landscape.
    • Align internal communications efforts across all functions within DMED ensuring consistent messaging and approach.
  • Develop a framework for building DMED’s culture and employee experience, ensuring consistent and comprehensive execution.
    • Reinforce and evolve the DMED voice, style and internal brand, and craft messages and materials that are aligned to our culture and values.
    • Manage DMED’s new peer-to-peer recognition program including building excitement and engagement with all employees.
    • Develop strategies to support new flexible/hybrid work environment as more employees transition back to campus.
    • Work closely with DE&I and CSR teams to develop communications strategies that will promote and drive engagement for DE&I and CSR efforts.
    • Partner with VP of Events to develop employee events and activations that will increase engagement and connectivity to DMED and Disney
  • Liaise across PR and corporate communications and with segment executives across diverse functional groups to align and translate their priorities and vision into an effective communications and event strategy and, as needed, support presentation design
  • Lead team to design, build, manage, and measure the effectiveness of communication channels and platforms, including DMED intranet and publicity platforms; livestreaming technology; and messaging opportunities in our physical spaces and at live and hybrid internal events.
    • Drive improvements to all employee communication channels, considering new and enhanced solutions to share information more effectively with a global audience.
    • Influence matrixed teams responsible for our platforms, including the content they deliver to ensure alignment with our communications priorities.
  • Display strong crisis-management skills by developing and executing strategies under pressure in a fast-paced communications environment, spotting emerging topics and issues and rapidly and effectively responding to news and corporate issues.
    • Partner closely with DMED Executives, Human Resources, corporate communications, various business units and leadership, to provide counsel, seek feedback on approach, develop aligned messaging and ensure consistency of tone in communications supporting company changes, crisis management, organization integration, major TWDC initiatives, the employee experience, and DMED culture.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of senior- or executive-level communications in a corporate office, publicity, or media relations function
  • Familiarity with a fast-paced, high volume industry environment
  • Demonstrated experience as a “hands-on” executive with a pragmatic mind-set, who can work as an advisor, consultant, and strategist with the ability to roll up their sleeves and work hard as an implementer
  • Strong knowledge of the media landscape and industry trends, with significant business savvy and the ability see the world through the lens of multiple stakeholders (e.g., senior executives, consumers, industry experts, and the larger business community).
  • Exceptional communication skills; proficiency to write clearly and concisely on complex topics for a diverse set of internal and external audiences.
  • Experience in writing executive talking points and communications plans for senior leadership teams.
  • Experience in managing large-scale initiatives with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment with a strong desire to interact with people at all levels
  • Relentlessly positive attitude and outstanding consulting skills with senior leaders
  • Flexibility and ability to anticipate change and respond to needs and priorities with agility
  • Significant experience leading teams in a fast-paced communications environment, where spotting emerging topics and issues and rapidly and effectively responding to news and corporate issues is key
  • Proven ability to manage others and assess skill sets in order to build team that meets evolving business demands

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working with consumer-facing digital technology products such as streaming services, advertising sales and content licensing
  • Experience with cutting-edge communications practices and technologies; understanding of new technologies and applications in the electronic messaging and communications field
  • Demonstrated proficiency with various social media platforms

Required Education

Bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field or equivalent work experience

Preferred Education

Master's Degree in Communications or related field

This role is considered hybrid, which means the employee will work a portion of their time on-site from a Company designated location and the remainder of their time remotely.
