The Indirect Tax group manages all sales and use tax, property tax, gross receipts tax and Canadian GST/HST for The Walt Disney Company and affiliates.  This group is responsible for managing all sales/use/property/gross receipts tax research and planning initiatives, property tax appeals, post capitalization reviews, tax audits, overall business unit support and multiple special projects.  The opportunity provides continuous growth for motivated tax professionals.

This role oversees Indirect Tax Advisory functions within Tax Operations.  The objectives of the position are to (1) resolve audit controversy in an effective and efficient manner and reduce risk to the Enterprise related to sales/use/property/gross receipts tax (2) support business changes through research, SME inputs, budgeting, etc. with regard to the impact of indirect taxes on operations.

Responsibilities of & Requirements for the Role:

  • Manages sales/use/property/gross receipts tax audits for U.S. & Canada as certain other non-U.S. audits for U.S. based entities and consultation with the business unit on tax reserves
  • Forecasting and budgeting for indirect taxes
  • Organize, prepare and file property tax appeals as necessary
  • Manages potential and/or ongoing litigation matters
  • Oversee internal audits including sales/use and or fixed asset/property tax reviews
  • Communicate relevant changes to legislation to appropriate colleagues and/or business unit partners
  • Ensure decisions and feedback are guided by policies, procedures and business plans
  • Recommend and/or implement solutions to mitigate issues or explore opportunities identified
  • Collaborate with external and internal business partners to support on-going questions that arise
  • Adapt project plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges
  • Demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively to solve complex problems within a team environment
  • Support business unit and/or system changes

To qualify for this role, candidates should have a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, economics, or a field similar to those listed and 5-10 years of relevant work experience. 

Preferred candidates may have advanced degree or on a path toward licensing as a Certified Member of the Institute for Professionals in Taxation (CMI) OR Certified Public Accountant (CPA).  Experience with data tools that enable transformation and analysis of large data volumes also a plus.  SAP, Vertex Sales Tax Return Software/Vertex L and O Series Tax Maintenance and PTMS is a plus.  Superior excel skills.
