Job Summary:

The Senior Manager, Port Adventures & Recreation is responsible for global shore excursion operations, overseeing research, product development and implementation. You will lead the Recreation department, which includes aquatics, animal programming, lifeguarding and sports facilities both onboard the Disney Cruise Line fleet and at Disney’s private island destinations. You will hold strategic responsibilities for port development and itinerary planning.


  • Develop and implement operating budgets for all areas of responsibility. Review financial statements, sales and activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement.

  • Execute business strategies supporting new Port Adventure offerings; direct development, delivery and executive presentations of all new ports-of-call.

  • Provide day-to-day leadership to Managers of Port Adventures & Recreation onboard the ships, Recreation Manager and Animal programming Manager on Island destinations and Shoreside Leadership team.

  • Direct Marketing and Public Relations on all Port Adventures communication published through press releases and social media.

  • Focus on key revenue drivers and implement change in current offerings, prices and processes to meet revenue targets for the fleet.

  • Provide strategic direction in the planning and execution of port adventures across the fleet for global cruise destinations.

  • Collaborate with Port Strategy team and VP, Commercial strategy & Port Operations on new itineraries, port initiatives and commercialization of Port Adventures.

  • Partner with the Cruise Directors and Island Directors for all Port Adventure, Recreation, Island Recreation and Animal Programming operational needs.

  • Subject matter expert for Disney Cruise Line on all recreation and lifeguard facilities, initiatives and operations.

  • Collaborate with Animal Science team to vet all tour operators and vendors.

  • Partner with Animal Science team on the Animal welfare on the Island destinations.

  • Creation and execution of innovative and personalized port adventures worldwide to increase sales, Guest satisfaction and profit.

  • Project manage the Lighthouse Point development for Recreation, Port Adventures and related items with Ops integration and WDI.

  • Collaborate with Adventures by Disney and National Geographic on synergies and strategic partnerships across all sectors.

  • Collaborate with Hotel, HR & Public relations on Bahamian integration and staffing.

  • Partner with Itinerary planning department for all port of call development and itinerary planning.

  • Manage all third-party operator relationships worldwide and verify operators fulfill their contractual agreements.

  • Direct Port Adventures team on all tour proposals, site inspections, negotiating, contracting, execution, and maintenance of itineraries around the world.

  • Participate on the FCCA (Florida Caribbean Cruise Association) Operations Committee, working with Government, Ministries worldwide to support and facilitate improvements in destinations.

  • Participate in CLIA (Cruise Line International Association) on subjects related to the ports, shore excursions and operations thereof.

  • Direct Cruise Activities team for all changes and additions to the online inventory in Seaware for Port Adventures.

  • Oversee the website advanced booking process and monitor capacity to increase space as necessary.

  • Verify Accessibility Location Guidelines are followed.

  • Facilitate RFC (Request for Change) resolution for Port Adventures Department.

  • Strategically leverage any corporate alliance and synergy partners.

  • Handle all rotation schedules for the Port Adventure department and partner with Cruise Directors, Island Directors and others as needed.

  • Determine Port Adventures staffing requirements, interview, and hiring decisions.

  • Monitor and analyze industry trends inside and outside the cruise industry.

  • For areas of responsibility, oversee documentation and updating SMS guidance affecting safety and environmental matters and LOG guidance on other processes.

  • SMS responsibility for upholding the general safety management responsibilities specified in the Safety Management System in areas under their control.


  • 7+ years of experience in recreation, shore excursion, sales, and/or marketing.

  • Provide strategic direction for Disney Cruise Line (DCL) Port Adventures and Recreation teams (ship, shore, and island).

  • Lead work with internal teams & across businesses (as necessary) to develop new experiences, products, programs, and initiatives that align with Disney Cruise Line’s Entertainment brand.

  • Oversee and maintain DCL Port Adventures & Recreation Operations to ensure successful delivery of guest experiences and responsibility for Port Adventure & Recreation revenues.

  • Successful ability to create & maintain effective relationships with key partners, vendors, contractors, and industry organizations.

  • Drive development of a long-term revenue plan and budget in close collaboration with Finance & Commercial Strategy partners.

  • Ability to negotiate and optimize contracts with external vendors & service providers.

  • Experience in sourcing, purchasing, invoicing and related systems.

  • Strong analytical, problem solving and product management skills in complex business setting / environment.

  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills with proven experience integrating with all levels of the organization.

  • Knowledge of best practices and innovative trends in the marketplace.

  • PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Workday, and Outlook proficiency.

  • Ability to travel a minimum of 25% of the year (as driven by business needs) and work outside of business hours.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Cruise Industry experience

  • Disney Cruise Line Consumer trend / knowledge

  • Project Management experience

Required Education:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in hospitality, tourism, business, sales, marketing or equivalent experience

  • MBA or equivalent preferred

Desired Certifications:

  • Lifeguard Certified

  • Aquatics Certified
