Job Summary:

We are looking for a Senior Program Manager of the Software R&D Department! As the Senior Program Manager, you will guide the development of Pixar's in-house movie production software, partnering with the VP of Software, engineering leadership, management, and production collaborators to define how the group manages software development and communicates both internally and with production. The Senior Program Manager also supervises the management of the software development teams, crafting healthy and productive team dynamics, and plays a meaningful role in building strong bridges with production collaborators and industry partners.

Responsibilities

  • Team and People Management
  • Supervise, mentor and support department management staff, including yearly performance reviews and compensation cycle
  • In collaboration with department leadership, HR and Recruiting, develop and implement strategies for finding and growing talent, including our onboarding process, opportunities for continuing education, and our performance management process
  • Find opportunities and strategies to promote positive team dynamics in the Software R&D group, including supporting the team’s and studio’s Diversity and Inclusion goals
  • Guidance and Management of the R&D Process
  • Guide our software development methodology, crafting effective and consistent operational approaches and be looking for ways to improve and refine our approaches as our goals evolve
  • Ensure that engineering plans and roadmaps are kept up-to-date and effectively communicated across the department and with key production partners, in sync with and adjusted to shifting priorities across the Studio
  • Ensure smooth and productive communication between development teams; help identify resource needs and tasks that overlap between projects
  • Use interpersonal skills to resolve conflict, promote a collaborative production environment, and foster an atmosphere of cooperation and communication
  • Production and Studio Liaison
  • Craft procedures and protocols for effective, high-bandwidth communication with production partners and clients
  • Work closely with VFX Supervisors and Technical Department Supervisors to generate feature requests for their projects; prioritize and maintain project lists as needed and work with the teams to adapt plans to changing needs
  • Work closely with Production Leadership to identify and foster partnerships between production and Software R&D, including identification of liaisons and staffing rotations between the groups.
  • Strategize and plan Pixar’s participation at conferences such as SIGGRAPH and other conferences.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 8 years management experience in animation production, software development, or equivalent preferred
  • Experience as a Department Manager or Production/Project Manager preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully organize people, projects and information, ideally in a software or production environment
  • Effective collaborator; can build consensus and manage a complex set of stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills (proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing with a variety of groups, e.g., engineers, executives, show leadership, etc.)
  • Meticulous attention to detail and the ability to prioritize work in an environment with fluid goals and constraints
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential material
  • Ability to remain calm and organized under pressure/deadlines
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
