Digital Innovation Intern, Parks & Resorts Digital, Glendale, CA

Disney Parks & Resorts Digital (DPRD) is a division of the Walt Disney Company that is responsible for the creation of online, mobile, and other digital experiences at Disney’s vacation brands, including Walt Disney World Resort, Disneyland Resort, Hong Kong Disneyland Resort, Shanghai Disney Resort, Disneyland Paris Resort, Disney Cruise Line, Disney Vacation Club, and other subsidiaries. DPRD is responsible for the design, development, and upkeep of Disney Resorts websites and mobile applications (i.e. Shop Disney Parks, My Disney Experience app, waltdisneyworld.com, etc.) to help Disney guests have a seamless digital experience.

This position will be part of the Innovation in Production (IIP) program, where we identify and evaluate emerging innovations from startups/venture capital firms/technology companies that could compliment & rapidly accelerate our Digital Guest and e-Commerce Experiences.

As part of the team, you’ll produce competitive intelligence and strategic trend reports and assist with identifying business cases for project ideas that will inform and impact departments across the division, including Innovation, Product, Design, and Development.


As the Digital Innovation Intern, you’ll work closely with senior catalysts in Innovation and Research with an opportunity to show your skills on a broad range of problem solving projects. You’ll act as a source of reference for the Disney Parks and Resorts Digital business by conducting secondary research and competitive intelligence on digital topics ranging from consumer behavior, ecommerce trends, competitor performance, startup or vendor analysis, web or mobile design, etc. Besides having strong research experience, you’ll be able to work with an amazing team to support the execution of multiple innovation projects and help foster innovation through ideation sessions that deliver concepts and BIG Ideas.

A day in the life …
  • Partner and Produce ideation sessions including brainstorms, supporting the Innovation in Production team
  • Promote a culture of innovation by staying up on trends and emerging technology; educating the broader team as necessary.
  • Conduct market research and competitive intelligence to observe trends or signs of change, making correlations across industries and themes, finding patterns in adjacent markets and spaces, and identifying business-relevant technologies, vendors and startups and communicate findings to teams.
  • Produce deliverables (newsletters, product and vendor assessments, competitive assessments, internal presentations, etc.) with a view toward promoting informed decision-making.
  • Evaluate technology solutions for fit and viability against use cases as well as evaluating the companies for viability
  • Support and administer IIP internal insights and project deliverables.
  • Manage project timelines in accordance with established deadlines and processes.
  • Collaborate with various teams (Technology, Design, Product Management, etc.) to provide the valuable insights needed to create Disney Parks and Resorts digital experiences

  • Experience with office productivity and presentation tools (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Keynote, Google Apps)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with using research databases (e.g, comScore, Forrester, eMarketer, Lexis Nexis, Crunchbase, Pitchbook, Gartner)
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of Disney Parks and Resorts

Required Education

  • You’ll be a graduate level student pursuing an advanced degree in a business or research-related field or a recent graduate (within 6 months of your graduation date).
  • What you’ve studied: Business, Marketing/Market Research, Information or Library Science, Public Relations, or another related field.

Additional Information

Internship Eligibility:
  • Must be enrolled in a college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within the past six (6) months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Must provide full work availability
  • Must provide own transportation to/from work
  • Current Active Disney cast members must meet Professional Internship transfer guidelines (for Walt Disney World cast members this is no more than four points and one reprimand in the last six months; for Disneyland cast members this is six months of consecutive service and a performance record clear of any disciplinary issues (warnings, suspensions, etc.) for at least six months)
Program Length: The approximate dates of this internship are June 2018 through January 2019.

Housing: You will responsible for securing your own housing and transportation.
