Responsibilities:

Through excellent planning, organization, communication, and knowledge of product design workflows, the Lead Technical Program Manager will own program and project-level operations for the Disney Streaming Artwork and Design Systems Team. You will partner directly with Product Design leadership to run active projects end-to-end, as well as help product designers prioritize workloads amongst an evolving scope of projects.  This key role for the Artwork and Design Systems Group (ADSG) team will require a deep understanding of cross-functional product, technology and design workflows, as well as proactive communication with stakeholders ranging from leadership and content partners, to internal design and product teams members.  The ideal candidate has an extensive understanding of creative processes and technical workflows in the streaming industry, and is passionate about working closely with fellow domain experts to drive best-in-class product design output on time.  You will often be the single point of contact for new innovative projects taking flight, and will be responsible for regularly reporting the status of Artwork and Design Systems initiatives.  You will also work directly with a talented team of Technical Program Manager partners who are innovating existing cross-departmental workflows, so a broad understanding of the Disney Streaming “ecosystem” will help support collaboration and the ability to drive change across the organization. 


 

  • Champion operational excellence within the Artwork and Design Systems (ADS) program and be a proactive leader of how this team will operate as it scales

  • Balance day-to-day project tasks with longer term program-level duties; requires ability to shift altitudes and priorities as needed

  • Be the main point of contact for all incoming, new special project requests that require product design outputs

  • Spearhead education and communication to our partner teams (Product, Engineering, Global Content Operations, etc.) on best practices and engagement models with the ADS team

  • Lead prioritization planning for the portfolio of active and upcoming projects

  • Maintain and update project planning/tracking tools in order to drive a clear understanding of priorities, tasks and deadlines; drive the future of how ADS leadership can quickly see resource capacity and project status at a glance

  • Lead internal ADS reviews and ensure all action items and feedback are communicated clearly and effectively

  • Track progress throughout the duration of a project (from definition to launch and beyond) with a mindfulness toward dependencies, and facilitate effective communication within and across teams

  • Work with product designers to prioritize workloads/initiatives and assist with driving this work through achievable project plans; you focus on the “how” so they can focus on the “what”

  • Partner with product, engineering & data teams to drive technical feasibility & requirements 

  • Track and manage dependencies across multiple projects; proactively work to reduce risks and roadblocks; you de-escalate problems before they become blockers 

  • Support overall strategic direction for the Artwork and Design Systems team and Product Design as a whole, including roadmap planning, headcount planning and helping Disney Streaming to achieve key business priorities

Requirements:

  • A minimum 7 years experience in program or project management, preferably within the creative, design, or similar space

  • A minimum of 3 years leading creative processes and workflows across a product design team or similar design/creative discipline

  • Proven leader and driver of operational excellence in any team you’ve worked within; key owner in the technical and/or product design components of projects and programs

  • Experience working on projects with distributed teams, making use of technology and processes to overcome the challenges of working with a globally distributed staff

  • Deep experience managing large scale product/design projects, serving as the primary “go-to” for any and all tasks; no task is too small, no ask too large

  • Fluency in technical project management / tracking tools (i.e. JIRA, Asana, Airtable, Smartsheet, etc.), including tool administration, customization of issues/workflows/forms and rollout/adoption efforts; participates in tool development and technical approaches to scale business needs and efficiencies

  • Experience with technical interaction/components within streaming platforms for artwork deliverables, and considerations to technological underpinnings of various devices and platforms + device limitation/architecture across Web, Mobile, Living Room etc. 

  • Extensive knowledge in software and product development lifecycles in order to properly scope, plan and drive projects through execution & delivery; this encompasses hard skills like agile practices, technical acumen and schedule building with soft skills like negotiation, diplomacy, coaching and team leadership

  • Experience within the media entertainment industry, streaming industry or a similar expansive creative or design industry

  • Experience handling sensitive, high-profile studio assets and working with key Studio and Franchise partners of any kind

  • Comfortable in fast changing environments, with fluctuating demands, building and managing relationships with cross-functional stakeholders and leadership

  • Deep understanding of product design and technical artwork domain; able to define design deliverables with ICs and leadership; able to confidently articulate technical artwork and design challenges/needs/specs to stakeholders 

  • Strong communication and presentation skills; proven ability to effectively get buy-in at all levels and across cross-functional teams

  • Self-managed in organizing your work and executing on it

  • Able to handle multiple large project assignments simultaneously

  • Extraordinary at problem solving capabilities and conflict resolution capabilities

  • Organized and detail-oriented: able to track multiple moving workstreams

  • Strong listener: able to deeply understand the team’s needs, ask the right questions to keep a project moving in the right direction, and proactively pursue feedback

  • Previous experience with people management and mentorship a plus

  • Ability to travel as needed to our SF, LA, or NYC offices to collaborate with colleagues in Product Design and other connected groups
