Job Summary:

The Walt Disney Studios Technology Innovation Group (TIG) is looking for an outstanding candidate to serve as a Machine Learning Intern. The intern will help TIG to realize its strategic mission of advancing and improving the way we tell stories and make movies today and developing new ways to tell and experience our stories tomorrow.


In this role, the intern will:
  • help design, engineer, and implement advanced machine learning tools, platforms and systems that are focused on any and all points of the movie-making pipeline, from ideation and production to distribution and experience.
  • develop and install prototypes and proof of concepts that explore core concepts and ideas, orchestrate demonstrations of said projects, and communicate innovation projects, concepts, and new technologies to visitors and stakeholders.
To be successful in this role, you must be innovative, a quick learner, curious, and have a good understanding of the key machine learning and artificial intelligence technologies that will drive and advance the ideation, production, distribution and presentation of Disney content and experiences. You need to have solid communication abilities and work well independently as well as in complex cross-functional teams. An ability to be flexible and work in a dynamic and fast-paced environment is key.

Basic Qualifications:

  • The ideal candidate will have familiarity and experience in one or more of the following areas:
    • Statistical machine learning
    • Deep learning/neural networks
    • Computer vision, image processing & generation
    • Natural language processing & generation
    • Deep learning for volumetric & 3D capture & modelling
  • Hands-on experience with Python, C++
  • Familiarity and experience with deep learning toolkits such as Keras/Tensorflow and Pytorch

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiarity and experience with optimization and deployment frameworks such as Onnx, CoreML, OpenVino a plus
  • Familiarity and experience with VR, AR, and game engine platforms such as Unity and Unreal a plus

Required Education

Sophomore, Junior or Senior level undergraduate student pursuing a Bachelor's degree or Graduate level student pursuing a Master's or PhD from an accredited college or university in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, Statistics or related field.

Additional Information:

Internship Eligibility:

  • At the time of application, must be enrolled in an accredited college/university taking at least one class in the semester/quarter (spring/fall) prior to participation in the internship program OR must have graduated from a college/university within the past 6 months OR currently participating in a Disney College Program or Disney Professional Internship
  • Must not have completed one year of continual employment on a Disney internship or program.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must possess unrestricted work authorization
  • Must provide full work availability
  • Must provide own transportation to/from work
  • Current Active Disney cast members must meet Professional Internship transfer guidelines (for Walt Disney World cast members this is no more than four points and one reprimand in the last six months; for Disneyland cast members this is six months of consecutive service and a performance record clear of any disciplinary issues (warnings, suspensions, etc.) for at least six months)
Program Length:
The approximate dates of this internship are May/June 2020 - August/September 2020. Interns must be available to work full-time for the duration of the internship.
