Job Summary:

The Manager, New Business Operations will be accountable for managing the operations of new business models, ensuring on-time and on-schedule operational delivery. Collaborating with business team members across more than 20 existing departments to meet critical business objectives, the Manager will ensure the success and long-term growth of the business by consistently driving activities for the new business models.

The Manager will take ownership after the piloting phase, and will scale and stabilize the new business. The Manager will ensure participation from all necessary internal departments across a complex organizational environment, report on performance to the leadership team, forecast cost and resource needs, provide performance reporting regularly, manage contract renewals, and will work with vendors to ensure deliverables and business terms are met. The Manager will handle unusual situations for which there is not a prior standard to operate against, and will need to assess the situation and determine the best solution or direction. In addition, the Manager will participate in and, at times, lead initiatives to optimize the business, process, and systems.

The Manager will need to influence and negotiate successfully with vendors and internal partners, apply business acumen and strong judgment skills, identify and assess risks, and make recommendations to leadership. The Manager will need to possess the flexibility to work with a wide range of organizational cultures, processes, and approaches. This role blends operations management skills with account management, retail channel management, project management, product management, people management, and collaboration skills.

Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities include:

Operations Planning:
  • Develop the Operational plans and schedules with cross discipline functional leads
  • Establish Operational financial forecasts by business including resource plans and other expense plans
  • Connect all the dots and understand key cross-functional dependencies
  • Anticipate problems and create contingency plans
  • Ensure necessary steps and dependencies are established, communicated, and understood
  • Ensure proactive scheduling of key deliverables, milestones and deliverable tasks with all impacted / contributing teams

Operations Estimations:
  • Working with other teams, facilitate scope definition, cross-functional estimates and high-level planning workshops
  • Quantify cost factors to deliver including resources, operations oversight, vendor and other expenses, and contingency
  • Validate and document key assumptions and dependencies established through estimation activities
  • Validate that scope can be completed within timeline and budget
  • Prepare and present high-level plan with estimates for executives and cross-functional leaders based on estimate outcomes

Operations Delivery:
  • Closely collaborate with many teams to effectively partner, guide, negotiate, prioritize, find solutions, and work to ensure positive outcomes
  • Confidently lead operations department and activities, drive cross-functional teams through ongoing and overlapping full delivery life-cycles, ensuring operations are managed in an on-time and on-budget manner
  • Ensure the appropriate teams are engaged early and often
  • Lead teams through critical checkpoints and dependencies
  • Manage resource assignments, budgets, scheduling, scope prioritization, and change control
  • Ensure proper documentation for delivery is created with help from cross-discipline functional leads
  • Serve as primary liaison among all engaged teams
  • Communicate regular status updates to executive leadership team on delivery, plan updates and budget spend and forecast
  • Monitor adherence to schedules and milestone commitments
  • Troubleshoot schedules and bottlenecks and alert appropriate departments
  • Escalate key issues and risks to ensure timely resolution and mitigation
  • Ensure that impacts are communicated and understood prior to change approvals, and if approved, facilitate change requests to ensure impacts are communicated and activated on by the involved teams
  • Use metrics to drive performance, efficiency and forecast improvements

Client and Relationship Management:
  • Manage partner expectations, scope, budget discussions and operations communications
  • Develop strong, positive partner and team member relationships
  • Provide partners with a consistent point of contact and accountability for the business operations
  • Provide strong problem-solving focus
  • Can frequently shift focus across activities and stages of development and delivery
  • Able to articulate product and operations strategy

Leading team members:
  • Train, manage, and coach direct reports on the operations team
  • Indirectly lead cross functional team members in order to successfully deliver on new business initiatives.

Basic Qualifications:

The following qualifications are required for consideration for this role:
  • Strong leader and decision maker with at least 7-10 years of experience in directly leading or collaborating with large, multidisciplinary teams, and successfully delivering solutions
  • 10 years of relevant work experience in a combination of Product, Program, and/or Operations in a consumer products, brand development, product development, manufacturing, and/or online retail organization, ideally in eCommerce, marketing, merchandising, or operations
  • Consulting experience is a plus
  • Experience in a matrixed organization working with multiple stakeholders across multiple tracks
  • Experience leading direct reports
  • Strong experience gathering, developing, and executing requirements
  • Extensive experience in estimation, program planning, project planning, resource planning, issue management, risk management, change management, communication planning, client management, and product documentation
  • Proven track record managing budgets and simultaneous operations efforts with direct management and accountability for budgets of $20M
  • Demonstrated analysis/assessment capabilities; able to take ambiguous situations and add structure and clarity for the team
  • Able to confidently motivate, influence, and lead teams to a successful delivery approach
  • Able to work both collaboratively and independently while maintaining a high level of productivity
  • Able to juggle, pivot, and maintain a sense of humor under pressure
  • Proactive and solutions-oriented
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with teams and executive level (Directors, VPs, SVPs) in presentations, working sessions, and 1-on-1 interactions
  • Practiced in negotiating with others in ways that result in win/win agreements and outcomes
  • Proven mentoring and coaching abilities to ensure effective growth plans of members of teams

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Consulting experience is a plus

  • Bachelor’s degree required

Preferred Education

  • Master’s degree in a related field preferred
