Walt Disney Imagineering is the master planning, creative development, design, engineering, production, project management, and research and development arm of The Walt Disney Company. Its talented corps of Imagineers is responsible for the creation - from concept initiation through installation - of all Disney Resorts, theme parks and attractions, real estate developments, regional entertainment venues, and new media projects.

This role will be responsible for oversight of the Internal Research Center (IRC) of Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI), and other diverse teams which contribute to the operational support of WDI. The role is responsible for achieving and maintaining the strategic vision for each of the multiple groups (Art Library Collection, Slide and Photo Library Collection, Research Library, Digital Asset Management, and Photography Studio) which collectively comprise the IRC, and guiding these groups to meet objectives in service of all stakeholders across WDI and the greater Disney community.

The Manager Creative Development will be responsible for developing long term strategies for expansion of services offered which will capitalize on project and partner needs and provide relevancy, including revenue generating opportunities. Will be responsible for creating high performing teams and will be the functional leader for the IRC team members. The Manager Creative Development will also be the functional leader for members of other diverse teams which contribute to the operational support of WDI.


  • Manages multiple projects for both development and production
  • Actively presents ideas, concepts and productions to key executives at the highest level of the enterprise
  • The role provides functional leadership of direct and indirect employees, contractors, vendors and leased workers
  • Creates and embraces a vision for techniques and methods of improving the portfolio of work
  • Responsible for performance management of team and develops resource plan for the group
  • Leader of multiple disciplines to champion best practices, lessons learned, and talent exchange
  • Discovers, researches, and initiates Professional Development Opportunities for talent
  • Interface with Creative Portfolio re: Casting & talent development
  • Multiple interface LOB within Parks & Resorts & TWDC
  • Work with Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Partners to align objectives, outcomes and strategies
  • Manages compensation matters including annual merit planning and awards, bonus determination, and contract negotiations
  • AOP for multiple budgets
  • Familiar with Disney project process and park operational, maintenance and lines of business systems
  • Leads teams of outside consultants and artists to develop both high-concept ideas and treatments as well as to creatively guide projects in production
  • Hires, fires, leads, develops, and direct priorities daily/100%
  • Initiates department improvements in process and efficiency
  • Establishes training and development programs
  • Broad degree of autonomy
  • Empowered to allocate resources as needed including budgetary and talent resources
  • Decision making authority for projects, budget, and management of the team; elevates issues as appropriate
  • Resource planning
  • Signature authority for the Manager level ($50K)
  • Interacts with internal and external local venue and lines of business leadership
  • Comfortably articulates the value of WDI’s creative capabilities where necessary or when dealing with other Disney Studios, WDI’s clients or partners
  • Provides input and feedback on staffing strategies and resources
  • Influence is born of deep knowledge of the team and their strengths and individual project needs

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years related experience
  • Knowledge of various process and techniques utilized by creative disciplines
  • Thorough knowledge of the creative process
  • Thorough knowledge of deliverables
  • Ability to recognize and develop talent
  • Knowledge of legal clearances a plus though will train
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organized
  • Proactive problem solver with strong ability to prioritize
  • Complete competency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Demonstrated ability to balance priorities among multiple venues and capable of managing change and shifting priorities
  • Design management skills (scope, schedule, budget, what needs to be on the drawings) for design efforts a plus
  • Experience in playwriting, dramaturgy and the theater a plus

Required Education

  • College degree or related years of experience in a WDI core discipline or related profession
