As part of DMED Technology, the DMED Consumer Experiences & Platforms pillar is responsible for creating the consumer facing applications across ABC, ABC News, the Disney Channel, ESPN, FX, National Geographic, Marvel, and more.

We’re looking for a Principal Software Engineer to help us build ground breaking digital experiences. This role reports to the Director of Engineering, Sports Portfolio and is responsible for the technical direction, architecture, and oversight of native mobile and connected device applications using a variety of platforms (Android, iOS, Apple TV, Fire TV, etc) and languages (Objective-C, Swift, Java, Kotlin, etc) for ESPN/ESPN+. Focus areas are to provide technical direction, collaborate with cross-functional leads to define architectures, and provide thought leadership in mobile engineering.

This is a highly collaborative role where partnership and relationship building with many different non-technical lines of business and other technology teams will be critical. The ideal candidate is a smart, results-oriented person with a mix of passion for outstanding application architecture and coding, who also has the soft skills of building relationships and consensus.

Responsibilities:

  • Build well-designed, well-engineered, stable, performant native mobile and connected device applications using a variety of platforms (Android, iOS, Apple TV, Fire TV, etc) and languages (Objective-C, Swift, Java, Kotlin, etc).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional team tech leads to define, communicate, and coordinate software architectures.
  • Support mobile teams in creating Proofs of Concept for new technologies and design patterns.
  • Effectively communicate technical solutions and recommendations to business stakeholders, program team members, technical leadership, and team.
  • Provide thought leadership in mobile engineering and bring your passion for technology to motivate and inspire on a day-to-day basis.
  • Deliver an outstanding experience for our Fans

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of full software development lifecycle experience.
  • Deep understanding and expertise in building mobile apps for at least one platform (Android, iOS, Apple TV, Fire TV, etc.) and languages (Objective-C, Swift, Java, Kotlin, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of mobile UI design principles, patterns, and best practices.
  • Passionate about writing clean, well-organized, and production-ready code.
  • Self-motivated with strong problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and experience working collaboratively with cross-functional teams of product managers, designers, and engineers.
  • Be organized and able to remain productive even when you have multiple deliverables.
  • BS or BA in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field or equivalent experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience developing applications for both iOS and Android.
  • Experience developing applications for OTT platforms (Apple TV, Fire TV, etc).
