Job Summary:

The Walt Disney Studios seeks a Sr. Staff Software Engineer, to join the Studio Technology team. The successful individual will develop a productive partnership with business stakeholders at all levels and guide product development toward delivery of unique and compelling experiences for our Guests.

The Sr. Staff Software Engineer manages the design and development of systems engines, core technologies and studio-wide applications ensuring that products are built, maintained and enhanced to continuously improve The Walt Disney Studio’s competitive advantage and technical excellence. Must possess a strong technical vision and own the design, development, testing and implementation of software fixes, enhancements, components and/or new software systems and applications. Architects and leads the development of the applications’ front-end, viewed and operated by various stakeholders throughout the company. While this position is front-end focused, it requires a working knowledge of back-end systems, relational database structure, and data querying.


  • Architect and lead development and implementation of critical software tools that must adhere to strict Studio security requirements.
  • Create an innovative technical strategy to ensure a secure and optimal processing of large quantities of sensitive Studio content
  • Experience in directly and more importantly indirectly leading engineers to agree on a unified vision and work together to launch sustainable software
  • Conceives and leads the execution of software development projects and major fixes using new or existing technologies.
  • Creates protocols, documentation and tools for the installation and maintenance of software projects.
  • Develops and mentors other engineers on the team through code reviews, implementing best practices and staying up to date with latest technologies
  • Uses advanced knowledge to resolve a wide range of complex issues in creative and effective ways.
  • Identifies problems and opportunities and champions the development of innovative solutions.
  • Has the ability to create solutions for problems that have not been solved yet in areas around cloud-based production, localization of content and video processing
  • Extremely important to be able to design & develop software that can be re-used by other parts of Studio Technology to build new tools and applications
  • Play a key role in finding and developing first class engineering talent

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10 to 12 years of progressively related experience in design, development and implementation of highly scalable, high volume software systems and components, Client-facing web applications, design and development of major Internet-oriented applications and systems.
  • 4 to 6 years of project or team lead experience
  • Experience deploying software for video streaming platforms and film production workflows
  • Experience working in Media Industry which entails tight timelines, constantly changing requirements and an emphasis on good front-end code and design
  • Experience developing software for highly sensitive content and/or data
  • Experience working on a small team with large assignments and little time to deliver
  • Has in-depth knowledge of / skills in the content areas of:
    • Web Technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, etc)
    • Front-End Framework (React/Redux, Angular, etc.)
      Object Oriented Principles, Design Patterns, Coding Best Practices
    • Database applications (Oracle, MS SQL Server, mongoDB, etc)
    • Data Query Language (GraphQL)
    • Back-End Programming Language (Java, nodeJS, Python)
    • Mobile applications platforms (iOS, tvOS, Android, etc.)
    • Media technology platforms (Blu-Ray, DVD, Interactive TV)
    • Understanding of product customers, value proposition and market competitors
    • Object Oriented Principles, Design Patterns, Coding Best Practices
    • Senior level experience in AWS system architecture, s3, EC2, Lambda, and Security (Network and Access Management)
    • Project management methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall, etc.)
    • Understanding of product customers, value proposition and market competitors
    • Experience with video encoding/streaming is a plus but not required.

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent; Master’s a plus.

Preferred Education

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, or related field
