Senior Systems Engineer - Ride Systems

Occasional relocations to one of our resort area locations in Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, Orlando, or “the next great location” offer unique, rewarding, and culturally immersive experiences. Durations typically allow for a continuous 6 months to well over a year at one of these sites where you will be installing, testing, and being amongst the “first riders” of the ride you just helped design, build, and commission.

Responsibilities

• Understand, develop and review systems, software and hardware designs for ride control systems
• Direct, lead and potentially execute the hardware and software development, prototyping, simulation, capacity optimization, and facility inputs for an attraction
• Ensures that all the performance and design specifications have been met, design reviews conducted with participation from all concerned stakeholders, all tests have been conducted at the factory and the installation site, and acceptance testing and commissioning is completed
• Maintain and foster open and ongoing communication with other groups (within or outside the division)
• Manage control systems vendors implementing the hardware design for the ride control systems
• Champion the introduction of new technologies methodologies that could enhance performance or reduce the cost of developing or maintaining systems; adapt quickly to new innovation within the marketplace
• Provide discipline/group-level technical and administrative oversight for the system design, engineering, installation and commissioning for ride control systems

Basic Qualifications

• 5 to 15 years of experience in the engineering field as related to controlling electromechanical systems
• This individual is capable of leading and/or performing the design, engineering and installation of high energy, electro-mechanical motion control systems
• Broad system engineering experience with the integration of mechanical and electronic/electrical systems
• Experience with the hardware and/or software requirements, development, design, engineering, test methodologies, and field installation
• Extensive knowledge of Programmable Controllers and/or General Purpose Computers used in industrial and safety applications
• Able to provide technical guidance at a systems software or hardware level
• Knowledge and familiarity with relevant Industrial Standards
• Ability to prepare project discipline budgets and adhere accordingly
• Familiar / Experience with scheduling methods and tracking



Preferred Qualifications

• Software/system modeling methodologies such as UML/SysML
• Understanding of communication technologies/protocols: TCP/IP, CAN, serial, etc.
• Control system theory experience (closed-loop control)
• Electrical troubleshooting skills (voltmeter, oscilloscope, etc.)
• Fail-safe and safety-related software design
• Multitasking software platforms
• One or more of the following: Real Time Operating Systems (RTOS), Allen Bradley or Siemens Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
• Software configuration management/version control tools

Required Education

  • Bachelors Degree (B.S. or B.A.) from an accredited college or university
  • Some Physics Coursework (Motion Equations / Dynamics) required

Preferred Education

  • Science (Physics, Computer Science, …), Engineering, and/or Math Double Major or Major-Minor highly preferred
  • Some Computer Science Coursework highly preferred
  • Some Engineering Coursework highly preferred
  • Control Systems Engineering and/or Control Theory a plus
  • Hands On Project(s) a plus
