Software Engineer- New Product DevelopmentApply NowApply Later Job ID 10015965 Location Glendale, California, United States Business Disney Parks, Experiences and Products Date posted Sep. 19, 2022 Flex Type Hybrid
- This role is considered hybrid, which means the employee will work a portion of their time on-site from a Company designated location and the remainder of their time remotely.
As a Software Engineer on The Walt Disney Company Digital Experiences, New Product Development team you will function as a "creative technologist," assisting with the full lifecycle of new product and experience development, from prototyping to project handoff. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Software Engineering, you will work with the Disney team to conceive, design, develop, and test prototypes based on latest technologies, to guide the evolution of the business worldwide. You are not just an excellent engineer, but also a passionate follower of new technology and new ideas. You're creative, an enthusiastic prototyper, insatiably curious, and collaborative. You succeed in the open-ended exploration of how to apply new technologies in playful and interesting ways.
You have a variety of technical skills. You have experience developing for mobile and Augmented Reality / Virtual Reality (AR/VR) platforms using native tools and/or Unity 3D; and experience with web3 technologies and some front-end web3 development in React or Vue. Foundational competence combined with curiosity and a willingness to learn is more important than deep experience in one specific technology, given the broad array of technologies we use and experiment with. In addition to technical skills, you enjoy constantly coming up with new ideas to try, and you’re not afraid to tinker with prototypes and experiments. You are comfortable operating in complex environments. You should communicate clearly, both orally and in writing, to business sponsors and partners, technical resources, and executives, in clear concise language that is effective for each respective group.
Projects on this team flow through an innovation pipeline that begins with blue sky brainstorming and then flows through early prototyping, validation, iteration and refinement, and finally either handoff or further development as fits the project. Experience with agile development is a plus. You will also present your work and projects to teams throughout the organization and for executive reviews.
Be involved in the process of ideating, prototyping, and iterating new digital product ideas in mobile, AR, VR, web3, and other new platforms
Stay up-to-date on latest trends in the technology and startup sectors, to identify early opportunities, technologies, and ideas for breakout new products and experiences
Partner with the Digital Experiences creative and product teams to brainstorm new product ideas and features; prototype new internal ideas or concepts from our third-party partners; and advise regarding technical feasibility for new product concepts
Help develop tech trend reports and presentations to other teams and senior leadership, to help us stay up-to-speed on market developments
Be the technical contact with our third-party licensing and development partners, on an as-needed basis, as projects move into the full product development phase.
