Sr. Technical Architect (Java)

We’re looking for someone who can lead the architecture, design, and delivery of applications that support the Guest Experience segment within Walt Disney Attractions Technology organization. You will collaborate with enterprise teams on development of technology road maps, standards and best practices, as well as support of enterprise governance processes. This role will play be key in the research and discovery phase to identify projects and/or opportunities for the team to broaden their tech portfolio. The ideal person will have experience making intricate, intelligent design decisions and can roll up their sleeves to dive into the code and contribute.

Responsibilities

  • Partners with Product, Architecture, Engineering and Operations teams to design and implement engineering solutions that support the roadmap for Guest Experience.
  • Collaborates with product, program, and delivery partners on the development of technology roadmaps and project plans that support Guest Experience
  • Develops an in-depth understanding of the architecture of Parks and Resorts systems and infrastructure platforms supporting Guest Experience.
  • Continually evaluates and recommends solutions in emerging technology areas that serve to improve the Guest Experience.
  • Designs and develops conceptual and technical designs, and leads hands-on implementation of solutions
  • Collaborates with Delivery and Solutions Engineering teams on integration of newly developed systems or components with enterprise systems and services, as required
  • Collaborates with Solutions Engineering and Reference Architecture teams to ensure alignment with enterprise architecture standards and governance processes
  • Works with vendor teams and corporate alliance partners, as applicable, to oversee development of customizations to packaged solution offerings, and reviews their work in terms of quality and adherence to standards
  • Provides oversight, guidance and mentoring to engineering, web development, quality engineering, and release management teams
  • Supports and contributes to existing DevOps processes

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience in multi-tiered, distributed application and service architectures
  • 6+ years of experience in end-to-end development of highly available applications preferably using Java technologies and frameworks
  • Hands-on ability to build quick prototype/visuals to assist with high level product concepts and capabilities
  • Experience with AWS and associated PaaS offerings
  • Experience with web services and Open API development and design patterns (SOA, Object Oriented, Java)
  • Experience in buy vs. build decision making, tool evaluation, Gartner frameworks etc.
  • Experience with IT service management standards and practices such as ITIL
  • Some experience with project management
  • Excellent presentation skills with a high degree of comfort communicating across all levels of the organization
  • Experience in Agile software development methodologies such as Scrum, Kanban

Preferred Qualifications

  • Passion for bringing innovation to market
  • Has successfully implemented at least one emerging technology project in previous roles
  • Some experience in / understanding of travel / hospitality domain
