Job Summary:

Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) is the master planning, creative development, design, engineering, production, project management, and research arm of The Walt Disney Company’s Parks and Resorts business segment. Representing more than 150 disciplines, the talented corps of Imagineers are responsible for the creation of Disney resorts, theme parks and attractions, hotels, water parks, real estate developments, regional entertainment venues, cruise ships and new media technology projects.

Position Overview: The systems engineer designs, modifies, develops, writes and implements software applications. Participates in the testing process through test review and analysis, test witnessing and certification of software. May report directly to a project lead or manager. This position has a wide degree of creativity and latitude.


  • To develop reliable software in order to automate a multitude of processes (OS, Software deployments, Storage and infrastructure pipeline just to name a few)
  • Design, develop, and deploy in-house custom integrations for consumption throughout WDI
  • Leverage existing metrics and define new ones to support troubleshooting of issues around the globe
  • Automate and improve technical standards, processes, and best practices globally
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with system engineers, network engineers, security, and in-house pipeline developers to incorporate cast member feedback and build efficient solutions
  • Use of cloud based orchestration tools and services to build an automated and scalable platform
  • Use tools to create an intelligent orchestration to support services
  • Work with other specialists to elevate our technology design and standards
  • Contribute to building and upholding of WDI engineering standards and best practices
  • Flexible for possible travel
  • Provide ongoing maintenance, support, enhancements, and documentation in existing systems and platforms

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related area and/or 6-8 years of experience in the field
  • Subject Matter Expert in at least one of the following languages: Java, Python, C/C++
  • Experience scripting for multiple OS types(Windows: cmd/powershell; Linux: Bash)
  • Knowledge of APIs (REST, SOAP, OAuth, SAML)
  • STRONG DevOps focus (Cloud & OnPrem)
  • Experience building and deploying infrastructure with configuration management tools (BigFix,Ansible, Chef, Puppet, SCCM
  • Experience with AWS
  • Experience with Relational Databases (MSSQL, ORACLE, MySQL, MariaDB)
  • Comfortable with Agile development methodologies
  • Comfortable with delivering on multiple competing priorities/teams with little supervision
  • Familiar with a variety of the industry concepts, practices, and procedures
  • Excellent verbal and written communication
  • Strong team focus – demonstrates a natural ability to elevate others
  • Can work well with a team and individually on tasks

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Web Application Technologies (HTML, CSS, Javascript, PHP, Apache)
  • Experience with file transfer and synchronization technologies (Aspera, Signiant, rsync)
  • Experience with several AWS Platforms (CLI, EC2, Cloud 9, data sync, lamba, hosting services, S3, Storage Classes, Media Services, Application Integration, Compute, Analytics)
  • Experience with storage architecture (Netapp, Qumulo, Isilon, Stornext)
  • Experience with Kubernetes
  • Experience with Atlassian JIRA/Confluence
  • Experience with VFX workflows, tools (Shotgun, etc.)
  • Experience with cross-site collaboration tools (Bluejeans, Zoom, SLACK, Lync)
  • UI/UX prototyping or programming experience and/or tools (PyQt, Qt, Wx)
  • Experience with NoSQL (MongoDB)
  • Experience with Celery and RabbitMQ
