Job Summary:

The Technician role provides key services in support of the staging, mockup and delivery of any WDI project. The Technicians responsible for the logistics of all project based product as goods move from design, to fabrication and to the field for installation. Responsible for meeting quality, schedule and budget. Concept Lab Technicians support the staging and strike of all WDI mockups (on and off campus) and are skilled in rigging and staging techniques, are certified and capable of operating all equipment necessary for staging and strike. In addition, the Concept Lab Technicians are competent in the technologies utilized in all mockups and are capable maintaining, initializing said technologies for mock up operation as well as proper shut down, disassembly and returning to Concept Lab inventory, those items stocked by the Lab.

Responsibilities:

  • Technical Systems setup and operation, maintenance
  • Perform basic theatrical support (audio, lighting, video and staging)
  • Troubleshooting
  • Temporary Power Distribution
  • Mockup area setup/maintenance
  • Special effects fabrication, and integration between high and low tech systems
  • Enforce Disney Co Safety practices- Electrical- Arch Flash, Over Head Rigging, harness training, fall protection, lift training, sound protection program, PPE, Arc Flash
  • Technical cleanup- “Technical mopping”
  • Mockup Space management
  • Maintain and repair stock inventory of all tools and equipment
  • Maintain, repair or arrange for repair, and organize the stock inventory of equipment, including hardware and tools
  • Maintain, repair or arrange for repair, and organize the mock up space(s) and facility
  • Provide advanced level theatrical support (programming of automation including video servers, Qsys Cores, AMX Systems, AMI Scripting, basic Navigator scripting)
  • Evaluate inventory of expendables and purchase supplies as required
  • Support set-up/installation efforts, either independently or as directed by a design lead for project mock ups, presentations and/or field installations
  • Arrange for rental equipment and schedule labor as required
  • Arrange for, supervise and/or participate in the strike of all equipment at the conclusion of each project and return inventory to proper storage
  • Support safety initiatives with properly maintained equipment
  • Center point of contact of services for project mockups and functional events
  • Support all mock-ups and presentations made to executive management
  • Rigging, including truss system
  • Develop strategies for managing and receiving multiple project materials and equipment, staging, delivery schedule, and labor resources required, and owns all aspects of the work with commensurate authority/autonomy from inception to follow through to managing staging of delivery
  • Build relationships and interfaces with WDI Executives, WDI Senior project leaders, WDW Operations, Legal and Safety as required, as the direct point of contact for all aspects of warehousing and material control
  • Provide complete advanced theatrical support across a wide range of disciplines and automation products and source/delivery equipment
  • Determine staff schedule based on business need to meet project deadlines
  • Manage movement of heavy materials during shipping/receiving, storage and must find creative off-loading solutions within safety guidelines
  • Advise Studio for expendables and repair budgets during AOP planning
  • Advise Studio on infrastructure maintenance and capital expenditures during AOP planning
  • Assign labor to tasks, make job calls, and arrange for rental and purchase of equipment and other temporary labor
  • Interact with outside vendors and providers for support and product delivery of equipment and services

Basic Qualifications:

  • Technical Systems setup and operation, maintenance
  • Troubleshooting
  • Low tech- standard theatrical technical support, core trades
  • Equipment support such as forklifts, scissor and boom lifts, materials lifts, chain hoists
  • Temporary Power Distribution
  • Mockup area setup/maintenance
  • Harness trained
  • Special effects fabrication, and integration between high and low tech systems
  • Disney Co Safety practices- Electrical- Arch Flash, Over Head Rigging, harness training, fall protection, lift training, sound protection program, PPE, Arch Flash
  • Read scaled theatrical plans and layouts
  • Demonstrated experience in safety pertaining to theatrical installations and electrical installations
  • High tech- new tech systems in A/V, show control, networking, systems integration, media production and digital environment hardware support, projection systems
  • Ability to install rigging equipment and utilize tools for theatrical installations
  • May require operating knowledge of fixed theatrical lighting fixtures and dimming equipment and electrical connections of same
  • May require operating knowledge of moving lights, theatrical controls and control distribution including DMX and Ethernet
  • Ability to operate and work off lifts, ladders and catwalks
  • Ability to follow directions and work as a crew member in a team environment
  • Highly organized
  • Ability to work under time pressure with multiple priorities
  • Computer literacy - Microsoft Office suite
  • Ability to read architectural, set and technical drawings

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Minimum 7 year work experience with related technical work
  • Ability to plan job day and successfully and safely supervise teams of technicians.
  • Personable demeanor and “ready to work” attitude

Required Education

  • Familiar with AutoCAD and Sketch-up
  • Proficiency with MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Project)
  • Certified in Rigging, overhead safety, equipment operation and fall protection.
  • Knowledge and familiarity with relevant Industry Standards
  • Training in projection equipment set and maintenance

This role is considered on-site, which means the employee will work from a Company designated location on an ongoing basis.
