Job Summary:

Lead the worldwide product strategy and line development for Marvel, Lucasfilm and 20th Century Studio (20CS) reporting to the SVP, Brand Merchandising & Product Design. Accountability across all product categories and distribution channels globally. Focused on the essential product strategies and initiatives to equip The Walt Disney Company (TWDC) in unlocking its next wave of short and long-term growth in products while delivering innovation, increased value and new businesses. Role based in Orlando or Glendale.


Develop one worldwide product strategy that is consumer-led, leveraged across all channels of business and inclusive of region-specific needs.
  • Strategically manage global product merchandising to capture growth in a large-scale, mature business
  • Partner with design to develop holistic, multi-category product lines that deliver market-leading, innovation, drive revenue and capture market share
  • Develop, implement and monitor a consumer-centric product development strategy that delivers outsized growth while increasing guest loyalty and conversion with our franchises and products
  • Identify and build new product strategies that grow the lifestyle within the franchise to address whitespace in the market and capture incremental enterprise value, new consumers and greater market share
  • Consolidate product needs from all regions and channels to develop one product brief to design
  • Drive a deep understanding of current business results across all channels and regions. Assess commonality and differences to inform line builds
  • Drive a product architecture strategy that ensures stronger sell-through at retail each season, year after year
  • Partner with Studio, Creative & Marketing to bring our content and IP to life with a consistent brand POV
  • Lead and manage product development metrics and financial analysis. Build seasonal goal setting measures in development counts, adoption KPI’s & COGS targets
  • Develop long-range category plans and manage product lifestyle globally and across channels
  • Build a line architecture segmented from value to premium ensuring proper price/value at all market levels
  • Build and manage the global price list
Lead the reimagining of product merchandising within new business models such as Direct to Retail (DTR), Collaboration, Distributor and Wholesale globally. Develop one global line including Owned & Operated (O&O), Licensing, DTR, Wholesale, Shop-in-Shops, Concessions that delivers increased value capture for TWDC and share in under indexed product categories.
  • Build and curate strong, consumer-centric, global assortments that support the franchise strategy and drive outsized growth at retail through Fulfillment By Merchant (FBM)
  • Partner with Commercial to build and implement new business models to drive increased value capture
  • Partner cross-functionally to ensure proper product segmentation vs. the competition and our O&O channels
  • Strategically build product assortment strategies that meet internal profit thresholds and deliver the strongest price/value ratio to our customers and consumers
  • Partner with Commercial, Sales & Planning on global buy plans to ensure correct SKU depth and investment to support highest sell-throughs for our 3rd party partners
  • Partner with Commercial and 3rd Party Partners to identify new growth areas to unlock future value and increase market share
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to create new ways of working with our partners for intended service packages
  • Own and drive the cross-segmentation (design, creative, commercial, marketing) integration of product strategy
Drive aspiration in the contemporary space through well-executed, high-end product activations that capture a new audience and pave the way for new channels of growth through brand and product elevation in the global market.
  • Build holistic product strategy to support the growth of halo items
  • Partner with Design & Creative VPs to develop new, contemporary ways to utilize our IP within products including a unique aesthetic POV for our IP in the retail luxury space
  • Attract and convert new consumers though the creation of products and programs specifically designed for the up-channel retail space
  • Partner with Commercial to identify and pitch key halo partners and with Commercial & Marketing on PR and influencer plans
  • Connect with GPC Merchandising & Design teams to build Halo product opportunities for all brands

Basic Qualifications:

  • 20+ years of progressive experience in Product Merchandising and Licensing in both retail and wholesale
  • Experience in building a product line that is both globally leveraged and locally relevant
  • Experience working with large-scale, global retailers to bring product assortments to market
  • 10+ years of progressive experience managing a global team with direct reports, stakeholders and partners
  • Demonstrated ability to capitalize on market trends and consumer zeitgeist to maximize value creation through the trend cycle
  • Demonstrated ability to create, leverage and scale innovation in consumer products and manage revenue creation while maintaining brand integrity
  • Experience working with thousands of 3rd party partners to develop market leading product lines for franchises
  • Demonstrated ability to act as translator between creative and commercial to deliver the proper mix of service today while building for the future
  • Experience relentlessly monitoring the global competitive landscape and consumer zeitgeist
  • Demonstrated ability to maximize buzz-worthiness by building items that drive a deep emotional connection with consumers
  • Strong working knowledge of the omni-channel marketplace
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to drive execution against a financial plan
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence a diverse audience; experience working with external partners and business owners to bring product and assortments to the market
  • Experience working and thriving in a highly matrixed company structure
  • Robust leadership and talent development abilities and a collaborative, effective management style
  • Ability to build & foster collaborative partnerships across functions & departments within TWDC
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to think creatively and disruptively to bring and infuse new ideas into product development
  • Experience in multiple segments within the global market
  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizational and cultural change efforts needed to ensure new, innovative concepts, business practices, and technologies are fully adopted and integrated into the business

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Merchandising, Business, Retail Management or related fields
