Job Summary:

Reporting to the SVP of Brand Merchandising & Design, this individual will lead the product design, development and approval for the 20CS, Disney Princess & Disney Animation franchises. Accountability will span across all product hardlines categories and within all distribution channels globally. This role will be focused on the essential product design strategies and initiatives that will equip The Walt Disney Company in unlocking its next wave of short-term and long-term growth in products while delivering innovation, increased value and new businesses to the organization. This role can be based in Glendale or Orlando.


Lead the design & development of all global products for the 20CS, Disney Princess & Disney Animation franchises:
Design and develop one global product line that is consumer-led, leveraged across all channels of business and inclusive of region-specific needs.
  • Strategically manage product design & development to capture growth within a large-scale, mature, global business
  • Drive selection of materials, colors and component parts
  • Sketch, design and proto-type seasonal items with factory and sourcing partners
  • Lead a team of designers to develop holistic, multi-category product lines that deliver market-leading, innovation, drive revenue and capture market share globally
  • Design and develop consumer-centric products that deliver outsized growth while increasing guest loyalty and conversion with our franchises and products
  • Lead the design team through product approvals that uphold the integrity of our franchises, are consumer-centric, deliver the highest quality products for the money and breakthrough in the market place globally
  • Drive design that is creative, innovative and that brings the magic of our company to the products we make
  • Drive a product design strategy that ensures stronger sell-through at retail each season, year after year
  • Partner with Global Creative and CIMA to drive up-front trend POV and identify future areas of growth in the franchise and across product categories
  • Drive seasonal concept and vision for 20CS, Disney Princess & Disney Animation in partnership with Creative leadership
  • Partner with Studio, Content Providers, Global Creative and Marketing teams to bring our content and IP to life properly and with a consistent brand point of view across the globe
  • Lead product design & development that delivers market-leading price/value and products that meet or exceed our financial goals
  • Work with 3rd party partners to design and approve market leading product lines for the franchises
  • Drive product design that deliver impeccable form and function at every price point and for all channels
  • Design products that meet or exceed margin requirements while delivering proper price/value. Redesign as needed to achieve all KPI’s
  • Lead a team of designers in creative ideation and market / trend spotting
  • Monitor and maintain quality in color, material, function and form of all products
  • Obtain QA approvals and re-design as needed to meet global quality standards
  • Collaborate with fellow Global Design VP’s to ensure best practices and ideation is shared across all brands

Basic Qualifications:

  • 15+ years of progressive experience in Product Design across the retail, wholesale and 3rd party environments
  • Experience in designing products that resonate with consumers both globally and locally across the world
  • Experience in designing and developing product lines for vertical specialty retailing
  • Experience working with large-scale, global retailers and partners to bring product designs to market for a variety of different consumer targets
  • 10+ years of progressive experience managing a global team with direct reports, stakeholders and partners in other countries
  • Demonstrated ability to lead a product design team in the creation of consumer-led items from concept through activation
  • Demonstrated ability to capitalize on market trends and consumer zeitgeist to maximize value creation throughout the trend cycle
  • Demonstrated ability to create, leverage and scale innovation in consumer products
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to drive quality product design within financial KPI’s
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to influence a diverse audience including experience working with external partners and business owners to bring product designs to life
  • Successful experience working, and thriving, in a highly matrixed company structure
  • Robust leadership and talent development abilities and a collaborative and effective management style
  • Strong Team Player – The ability to build & foster collaborative partnerships across functions & departments within The Walt Disney Company and externally
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven ability to think creatively and disruptively to bring and infuse new ideas into product design
  • Experience in multiple segments within the global market
  • Demonstrated ability to lead the organizational and cultural change efforts needed to ensure new, innovative concepts, business practices, and technologies are fully adopted and integrated into the business
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally

Required Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Product Design or related fields
