The Customs Compliance Specialist is responsible for day-to-day compliance with Customs trade regulations. As part of the Trade and Customs compliance team the Specialist’s role is to ensure that Disney adheres to all governmental regulations and laws for both, Import and Export activities to avoid risks that may result in fines and penalties to the organization.

Knowledge of tariff classification and understanding of the Harmonized Tariff Schedule of the United States is essential to this position. Entry writing experience with wearing apparel, costumes, housewares, giftware, decorations and retail merchandise in general as well as Industrial / electronic machinery equipment and parts is desired. Position is responsible for ensuring proper recordkeeping, valuation, quantity, country of origin and product classification is in compliance. This position is responsible for accurate accounting and declaration of ASSISTS. This position also manages post summary corrections which the company submits via the broker to ensure compliance.

Specialist must exercise reasonable care at all times while executing his/her job responsibilities. This includes taking a pro-active approach to problem solving.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the accounting and declaration of all ASSISTS. Customs Valuation accuracy is a key responsibility in this role
  • Aid in developing processes and procedures to manage the ASSIST program
  • Proactively monitor all activities with brokerage companies as they relate to post summary corrections
  • Manage Customs record keeping requirements – Acts as the Records Information Management (RIM) coordinator for the team
  • Work with our Customs Compliance team in business’s Customs inquiries if related to post summary corrections, ASSISTS or Section 301 duties.
  • Monitor departmental operational guidelines specific to role and ensure they are updated as needed
  • Work with various partners such as Sourcing, Tax, Finance, and Logistics to identify root-cause analysis and corrective action for customs compliance related issues
  • Audit transactions for valuation accuracy
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

  • Previous experience working in a Customs Broker office or working for an importer in Trade related activities – 1+ years
  • International business including Import / Export rules and regulations: 1+ years
  • Microsoft Office skills required with strong Excel skills
  • The ability to utilize/manipulate large datasets to identify trends and ascertain business knowledge
  • Work in a fast-paced environment
  • Work with minimal guidance or direction
  • Detail oriented and organized
  • Identify and implement process improvement opportunities
  • Effectively manage change
  • Work in multi-cultural corporate business setting
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and communications
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, judgment, creativity, flexibility, and excellent motivation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent knowledge of import / Export regulations, including Customs Valuation Methodology

Preferred Qualifications

  • Accounting background would be a plus
  • Experience with a Global Trade Management (GTM) platform (i.e. ORACLE, QuestaWeb and Integration Point) and/or foreign trade zone (FTZ) a plus.
  • Knowledge of HTS (Harmonized Tariff Schedule)

Required Education

College degree or equivalent in international business studies or 5 + years of experience in the industry

Preferred Education

Additional professional certification such as a Customs Broker License is desirable
