Job Summary:

The eBook Editor manages the development of replica reflow and fixed format eBook content for the Disney, Marvel, Lucas, Disney Editions, Disney Hyperion, National Geographic Adult and Kids. Working closely with editorial, design, operations, managing editorial, marketing and sales to ensure each of our vertical eBook titles and libraries of titles is given the opportunity to reach its widest potential readership, ensuring a delightful and rewarding reading experience that directly shapes customer acquisition and retention.

Responsibilities:

You Will:

  • With the support of the audiobook/eBook editor, manage the eBook editorial process from start to finish. Ensure that editorial standards are met, in your own work and in the work of other writers. Help to maintain and further develop industry best practices.
  • Manage eBook licensing projects that arise, partnering with appropriate teams, global and internal.
  • Working with managing editor, review a yearly print book list to determine eBook titles and the formats (Fixed Format, Enhanced Audio).
  • Determine eBook marketing plans and back of book content (BookBubs) with eBook marketing leads.
  • Review eBooks that need extra approval—National Geographic, collections, read-along storybooks—with print editor, designer, Walt Disney Records team, stakeholders.
  • Work on a process for the print editors to consider digital formats prior to and during print production so that all customer experiences are optimized.
  • Maintain and execute any updates to eBook titles in PUBs as necessary, including ISBN creation and descriptions.
  • Review print title and mark up the archived PDF with any changes needed for eBook conversion.
  • Serve as an editorial resource for the eBook design team to ensure the work maintains the essential characteristics of the print work once converted to eBook.
  • Upload all editorial notes into OPA system as separate word documents so all rounds of correction are preserved and noted.
  • Support business by attending eBook sales and marketing meeting, production meeting.
  • Build exceptional working relationships with print Editorial, print Design, eBook Design, Operations, Managing Editorial, and Sales and Marketing.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in eBooks, managing editorial, editorial, and/or subrights.
  • Knowledge of current eReader devices and market landscape.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to collaborate across various departments.
  • Must have exceptional project management skills, and be deadline-driven, organized, and able to prioritize among simultaneous projects in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail with an eye for visual communication. Bring care and thoughtfulness to every aspect of book-making.

Required Education

  • BS/BA, or equivalent work experience required
