The Walt Disney World Legal Department is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Associate Principal Counsel (“APC”) to provide legal advice to various sales and marketing business areas within the Disney Parks, Experiences and Products segment of The Walt Disney Company (“DPEP”). The APC will report directly to the Assistant Chief Counsel of the team and will receive team paralegal support.
Responsibilities
Provide FTC and other consumer protection legal advice to a variety of DPEP lines of business including Disney Cruise Line, Disney Vacation Club and StoryLiving by Disney
Draft and negotiate complex license, sponsorship, promotion and services agreements
Provide advice related to pricing strategy and special offers
Review creative content to ensure compliance with advertising law and policy and internal company guidelines
Provide creative, solution oriented legal advice and act as a strategic thought partner throughout various stages of promotions and marketing initiatives
Coordinate with subject matter experts within DPEP, including tax, privacy, intellectual property, technology and operations
Manage outside counsel and legal matter budgets
Basic Qualifications:
An attorney with a minimum of 5 years’ experience in-house or at a law firm with significant experience in commercial transactions and issues relating to advertising and sales
Proven knowledge of consumer protection laws and regulations, including FTC and advertising industry policy
Experience with web site, mobile apps and social media and other digital platform commerce and advertising
Ability to work independently, with some supervision, on complex projects and assignments
Demonstrated ability to identify and analyze issues, evaluate risk and exercise sound legal judgment
Self-motivated and ability to multi-task and prioritize work quickly, efficiently and collaboratively under tight deadlines
Working knowledge of privacy and intellectual property laws to coordinate these matters with subject matter experts
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and client relationship skills
Must be team-oriented and have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a solution oriented, problem solving approach to legal issues
Ability to provide direction to paralegals
Understanding of the travel industry a plus
Required Education
JD or equivalent
Strong academic credentials
Admission to the Florida bar in good standing or willingness and eligibility for Florida Authorized House Counsel status
