Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) is the master planning, creative development, design, engineering, production, project management, and research and development arm of Disney’s Parks and Resorts business segment. Representing more than 150 disciplines, its talented corps of Imagineers are responsible for the creation of Disney resorts, theme parks, and attractions, hotels, water parks, real estate developments, regional entertainment venues, cruise ships, and new media technology projects.

Walt Disney Imagineering has a current opening for a Senior Project Estimator in our Lake Buena Vista, FL offices. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conceptual and detailed estimating, design review, bid packaging, bid review, risk management, change order administration, and monitoring the design for adherence to the budget throughout the remaining project life cycle.

Responsibilities:

Under minimal supervision, will perform the following general duties and estimating/cost control duties:
  • Develop independent estimates for site work, infrastructure, area development, facilities, shows and rides, interior and themed finishes, and design
  • Perform drawing quantity take-offs and estimates using historical and standard rates while adjusting for site and project-specific factors
  • Develop fair price estimates for bids and complex project changes
  • Provide project team with cost guidance during all phases of the project
  • Participate in the negotiation of project change orders
  • Evaluate specifications, drawings, pre-bid meetings, and other project factors to determine scope of work and required contents of estimate
  • Develop total EFC through analysis, experience, and considering input from project teams, suppliers, and subcontractors for complex and large projects (i.e. E-ticket attraction, hotel, land)
  • Develop "what-if" cost estimates and analysis
  • Adjust historical and trend data to incorporate site and project-specific factors to validate estimates and cost forecasts
  • Implement highly effective cost control tools and reports and provide insightful analysis that contributes to cost certainty
  • Identify and assesses project risk and contingency determinations
  • Frequent communication, reporting, and interactions with project and studio team members including vendors and outside consultants on complex topics.
  • Fosters collaboration across various stakeholders to develop integrated and fully supported Project Controls plans, strategies, mitigations, and forecasts.
  • Contributes in project leadership meetings and serves as a trusted source of information and reliable analysis to project and studio leadership.
  • Able to summarize communications for management or executive presentations.
  • Ability to supervise, mentor, and train Associate and Staff Project Controls Specialists
  • Ability to direct outside consultants Project Controls staff
  • Routine day-to-day decision-making authority on Project Controls issues with moderate impacts to project delivery plan (and through consultation with Project Management). For complex items or items with a significant commercial, staffing, or schedule impact, works with principal or functional leaders in decision making.
  • Participate in performance assessment and feedback

Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum five years cost control with estimating experience
  • Ability to supervise staff, consultants, and suppliers including setting goals, prioritization of tasks, coordinating work, and managing time
  • Knowledge of different types of contracting and procurement agreements and the impacts on Project Controls
  • Strong meeting leadership, facilitation, and alignment skills
  • Basic conflict resolution skills
  • Strong communication, collaboration, technical writing, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong knowledge of design, manufacturing, and/or construction
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Comfortable and efficient with complexity
  • Risk identification and management
  • Strong negotiation skills
  • Ability to normalize or condition bids and cost estimates for fair comparison
  • Ability to understand indirect impacts on cost and find cost gaps
  • Minimum five years in engineering/manufacturing/construction (non-residential) or six years major theatrical production experience
  • Minimum one year supervisory experience
  • Themed entertainment experience preferred

Required Education

  • 4 year undergraduate degree, preferably in a technical field such as engineering, architecture, construction management, or equivalent work experience in planning or estimating
