Job Summary:

Provide detailed engineering simulation and analysis services for Park Operations Line of Business, Walt Disney Imagineering, Design and Engineering, Transportation, Engineering Services, and Entertainment. These services may include developing: dynamic mechanical systems models & simulations; electro-mechanical simulations; finite element analysis; rigid or multi-body dynamics; signal processing algorithms; optimization algorithms; discrete control design; robotic controls and simulation; and statistical analysis applications.

Responsibilities/You will:

  • Develop and review detailed mechanical and system-level simulations using various simulation software and software development environments (e.g., MATLAB, ANSYS, Working Model, SolidWorks, Visual Studio).
  • Derive and review mechanical and performance requirements for theme park attractions and shows.
  • Lead design reviews for mechanical or system-level designs for new or existing rides and shows.
  • Apply standard engineering techniques and ensure that assigned designs are in compliance with appropriate regulatory codes and internal standards.
  • Lead efforts for the analysis and review process for new proposed engineering software tools.
  • Produce status reports detailing project activities.
  • Ensure that team members and management are well-informed of activities.
  • Develop proposals that include job assignments, scopes of work, validation plans, and procedures.
  • Support Design and Engineering teams in the application of dynamic analysis techniques.
  • Work with our Walt Disney Imagineering and FOS partners to ensure all requirements are included in the simulations.
  • Track and inform project teams and leadership on project schedule and budget trends.
  • Drive decisions on tools and software platforms for analyses.
  • Define new projects or business ventures that fit the organization's strategic plan.
  • Apply and develop supporting software tools.

Basic Qualifications/ You will have:

  • 5+ years working in a related role in the entertainment or general engineering industries.
  • The ability to lead projects with support engineers in the development of the simulation and analysis efforts.
  • Be able to train and mentor interns and less experienced Simulation and Analysis engineering personnel on analysis efforts.
  • Highly proficient in analysis software such as Matlab, Simulink, MathCad, SolidWorks, and ANSYS.
  • Strong understanding of mechanical design, structural analysis, machine design principles, and materials modeling.
  • Ability to support other Simulation and Analysis Design Engineers in the use of engineering software, software development, and/or controls systems development environments (e.g., Visual Studio, TwinCAT, Python).
  • Demonstrated ability in mechanical plant modeling and controls algorithm design.
  • Solid understanding of system and software design, coding, and debugging.
  • Ability to find opportunities to use software development to improve processes.
  • Strong physics and mathematics academic background.
  • Ability to develop differential equations and physical model derivation.
  • Experience with dynamics systems modeling and working with linear and non-linear materials solutions in finite element space.
  • Strong understanding of statistical modeling.
  • Familiar with Agile software development practices, including scrum, sprint planning, retrospectives, etc.
  • Familiar with GitHub, Smarteam, or similar version control and documentation revision toolsets.
  • Shown knowledgeable and skilled in using common computer software for word processing, spreadsheets, etc. (Microsoft Word, Excel).
  • Proven track record to troubleshoot and assess problems in the field to develop and implement solutions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Validated Professional Engineer License or equivalent.
  • Proven understanding of Ride and Show Control.

Required Education:

  • Validated Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent from ABET-certified curriculum.

Preferred Education:

  • Validated MSEE, MSME, MSCE, and/or post-graduate work.
