Job Summary:

The purpose of the role is to lead product design and development across all brands in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA). Work with the creative, category, franchise and brand merchandising teams to ensure the highest quality, consumer-focused and trend-right product lines across licensing and Direct-to-Retail (DTR), that build brand equity and meet financial targets. The role will be working with one of our biggest Retail account on Boys and Men fashion.

The Opportunity & Responsibilities
  • Lead the execution of product design and development for the specific product range to deliver on
  • business needs and strategic intent of categories
  • With a focus on creativity and innovation, develop and deliver high quality, authentic storytelling products, which are scalable, and have longevity
  • Lead up-front trend point of view (POV) for soft lines in partnership with creative, and brand merchandising
  • Offer creative input and trend direction to inspire licensees/retailers to deliver high-quality products
  • Identify future areas of growth (with approval of the Director) across the franchise and the product category
  • Work with licensees and collaborators to lead the development of consumer-centric product lines that are trend-right, deliver market-leading innovation, drive revenue and capture market share globally
  • Develop team to ensure that designs deliver great price/value for each tier of the value pyramid
  • Drive a product design strategy that ensures our products are market leaders and deliver on business strategies
  • Responsible for monitoring competitors, product innovations and market dynamics to deliver trend-right products for each segment of the retail landscape
  • Direct product approvals that uphold the integrity of our franchises and deliver the highest price value
  • Work with licensees and collaboration partners to design and approve market-leading product lines for the franchises
  • Direct execution against seasonal concept and vision for categories in partnership with creative, brand merchandising, and sourcing teams
  • Partner with the studio, content providers, global creative and marketing teams to bring our content and intellectual property (IP) to life properly and with a consistent brand point of view across the globe
  • Monitor and maintain quality in colour, material, function and form of all products
  • Obtain quality assurance (QA) approvals and re-design as needed to meet global quality standards
  • Manage agency, DTR and partner relationships
  • Regular review of systems and processes with the purpose of reducing administration and carving out more creative time, ensuring efficient practice
  • Establish and manage product to market (PTM) calendar anchored to global PTM but with the relevant local nuance
  • Set and oversee the management of departmental critical paths and PTM in line with the business brief and key performer indicators (KPIs) with particular attention to design development timelines and deliverables with partners
  • Develop and manage the creative output from licensees, DTR and collaboration partners while driving a strong innovation agenda through product creation, ensuring brand consistency, storytelling and compelling execution within a commercial context
  • Lead all design projects (e.g. product toolkits, product pitches, inspiration boards) within the category, utilising internal and external resources, as required

The Experience We Require From you
  • Degree level education in a related field or equivalent work experience
  • Previous experience managing and developing the performance of a creative team, essential
  • Experience in designing and developing soft lines product (with specific focus depending on department) that resonates with consumers both globally and locally across the world
  • Deep knowledge and understanding of licensing and experience working with multiple global and regional partners
  • Strong understanding and high level of interest in The Walt Disney Company consumer product portfolio
  • Experience working with large-scale, global retailers and partners to bring product designs to market for a variety of different consumer targets
  • Proven experience working, and thriving, in a matrix organisation
  • Proven experience of building effective relationships, leading and managing change and collaboration across departments
  • Demonstrable ability to lead a product design team in the creation of consumer-led items through the development cycle
  • Ability to analyse data, construct practical conclusions and implement recommendations to achieve business targets
  • Strong written and spoken English for business use, essential
  • Demonstrable ability to capitalise on market trends and consumer Zeitgeist to maximize value creation throughout the trend cycle
  • Demonstrable ability to create, leverage and scale innovation in consumer products
  • Strategic thinker with the ability to drive quality product design within financial KPIs
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and support organizational and cultural change efforts needed to ensure new, innovative concepts, business practices, and technologies are fully adopted and integrated into the business
  • An ability to deliver against set deadlines and budgets
  • Computer literate including MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint), Adobe and other design packages
  • Flexibility for the occasional UK, European or international travel may be required
  • Contribution to ad-hoc projects as the business requires
