Job Summary:

Standards & Practices Manager 
FX Networks: Original Linear & Streaming Programming, Acquired Films, National Geographic Unscripted Programming

Reporting to the Director of Standards & Practices for FX Networks, the purpose of this position is to ensure that all Standards and Practices guidelines and procedures are adhered to for FX content that airs on linear and streaming platforms.  The main function of this role is script review and analysis of original programming for FX & FX HULU Scripted Originals, Documentaries/Series, and Film Acquisitions. Limited review for National Geographic unscripted programming may also be required.

This position requires prior S&P experience or relevant exposure, as well as an understanding of societal and cultural sensitivities. The primary responsibility is to read scripts and screen cuts, decide programming acceptability for various audience types and ages, provide written notes at all stages of production, and assign V-Chip ratings. Due to an increased volume of programming, candidates must be able to manage multiple projects while meeting various deadlines for clients.

Utilizing prior S&P knowledge and critical thinking skills, the S&P Manager can be called upon to diplomatically interpret, explain, and/or enforce policy to clients and senior leaders. This role is also responsible for determining and assigning necessary disclaimers for sensitive programming and collaborating with teams and departments related to Production, Ad Sales, and Social Responsibility.

Based on the needs of the department you may also be assigned duties and specialized projects not listed above.


  • Screen and issue notes for all programming content that may include excessive violence, unacceptable language, sexually explicit material, imitable behavior, commercial product placement and graphic visuals that might be unacceptable for distribution.
  • Assign an appropriate V-Chip rating and/or advisory to the programs.
  • Represent the department in internal and/or external meetings to collect information and explain programming guidelines.
  • Enforce policies with clients so that programming is cleared with acceptable content.
  • Elevate larger issues to the S&P Director of Hulu Original Scripted & International Programming.
  • Inform Programming, Production, and/or Network Operations of any outstanding issues so they can be resolved before air date.
  • Maintain positive working relationship with all parties involved in creating and producing programming that is platform acceptable.


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher.
  • Minimum of 3 years with Standards & Practices or comparable (network/content) experience. (If no direct experience, background must include substantial exposure to Standards & Practices.)
  • Excellent verbal, written communication, organizational and interpersonal skills. 
  • Relevant experience within a corporate environment.   
  • Computer proficiency in a PC environment and Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Collaborate and delegate within a team-oriented environment. 
  • Able to prioritize, work efficiently, and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.  
  • Ability to handle difficult situations and/or people interactions diplomatically. 
  • Ability to separate one’s personal beliefs and interests as to apply the company’s guidelines and policies to applicable content.
