- This role is considered hybrid, which means the employee will work a portion of their time on-site from a Company designated location and the remainder of their time remotely.

Job Summary:

The VP of Documentary Films will ideally be based either in Los Angeles or New York City and help support the day-to-day operations of NGC’s feature documentary business.  This seasoned and experienced executive will be expected to have deep relationships in the creative community and extensive knowledge of all aspects of the feature documentary business.  This executive will work closely with filmmakers, producers and other internal and external stakeholders on NGC’s feature documentaries, through all stages of the films’ life cycle, whether original commissions or acquisitions.  This executive will also work closely with NGC’s internal teams on distribution, festival and awards strategy.  This executive will be supervised by the EVP of Scripted Content and Documentary Films.


  • Support the EVP of Scripted Content and Documentary Films in the oversight and day-to-day management of the documentary film slate.
  • Work closely with film teams and internal stakeholders throughout each film’s life cycle.
  • Cultivate relationships with best-in-class doc filmmakers and producers and attend both domestic and international film festivals.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing and Communications team around distribution, festival and awards strategy.

Basic Qualifications

  • Significant experience working on feature documentaries.
  • Experience with and deep knowledge of the documentary film creative community.
  • Strong understanding of and passion for the National Geographic Content brand.
  • A sophisticated creative sensibility.
  • Working knowledge of the production process.
  • Ideally, experience working at and successfully navigating inside an established media company.
  • An ability to communicate effectively with talent as well as myriad executives across the NGC and Disney infrastructure.

  • Strong relationships with film festivals and film distribution companies.

  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience.
