JOB DESCRIPTION

Searchlight Pictures is seeking a VP, Development, to become a key contributor to the Searchlight Television development team.  Reporting to the SVP, Development & Production, the Vice President, Development, will identify and develop ideas and concepts for live-action content, as well as supervise production of current Searchlight projects by coordinating with producers, talent, and other Disney divisions and outside networks.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement the creative strategy as defined by senior leadership to grow unique, compelling, and brand-appropriate scripted series content.
  • Self-generate, solicit, evaluate and develop ideas/concepts into fully formed scripted series that align with Searchlight Pictures’ vision.
  • From a creative standpoint, oversee production of pilots and then manage current programming responsibilities of ongoing series to ensure the integrity of the creative vision.
  • Give creative guidance and feedback to top level show runners on outlines, scripts, and cuts.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with talent (writers, producers, directors, actors, authors, filmmakers, etc.), identifying the creators of tomorrow and actively pursue business with them.
  • Provide ongoing guidance on key casting decisions.
  • Lead and mentor junior team members.
  • Spearhead problem solving with studio partners and producers.

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Strategic and creative minded executive with a track record developing commercially successful and/or critically acclaimed original scripted series.
  • Significant experience in a Creative Executive capacity or related role within a studio, production company or network.
  • Deep understanding of the television development and production processes.
  • Understanding of the global and multicultural audience and how to adapt content to appeal to a wide audience.
  • Strong relationships with agents, managers, writers and producers.
  • Proven experience providing deep, concise and constructive notes, both verbally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to interface effectively with varied levels of management, talent and staff.
  • A self-starter, who is assertive, enthusiastic and highly motivated.
  • Ability to multitask and manage complex projects.
  • Creative, passionate, innovative and entrepreneurial.
  • A team player who values collaboration and the success of the larger group.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
