Job Summary:

Be a part of an innovative team and culture…

The ABC News Special Events team handles all breaking news and planned production of major news events. Breaking news events can include everything from politics to major weather disasters, mass shootings and terrorist attacks. Planned special reports have included royal weddings, space launches, the Pope’s retirement, congressional hearings and presidential election and inaugurations. This internship will provide you with a unique behind-the-scenes seat to the biggest breaking news stories and other major events in TV news. 

A Day in the Life…

  • Daily tasks include printing and preparing copies and other editorial material needed for production. 
  • Assist in the logistical planning of planned special reports as needed. 
  • During special events programming, run copies and editorial material to executive and senior producers in the control room. 
  • Prep for long term/larger scaled events such as the Pope’s retirement or a high figured death.  

What we are looking for…(Basic Qualifications)

  • Strong research skills 
  • Strong organizational skills 
  • Understanding of and interest in basic and complex political topics 
  • Proficiency in all Microsoft Office programs, Google Docs, etc. 
  • Flexible hours, including flexibility with working early mornings, late nights and weekends 

(Preferred Qualifications)

  • Prior journalism or newsroom experience 

Required Education:

  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate program at a college/university taking at least one class in the semester prior to participation in the internship program, or recently graduated within six months at time of application.

Preferred Education:

  • Earning bachelor’s degree, recent graduates, earning master’s degree

Additional Details:

  • This internship is a hybrid internship. The intern will work some days in the office and other days remotely, so it requires a working, reliable internet connection as well as a quiet, dedicated work space.
  • Must be willing to relocate to the New York City area and provide your own housing and transportation for the duration of the internship
  • The approximate dates of this internship are January - May 2023
  • Candidate must be available to work full-time hours (approximately 40 hours/week) for the duration of the internship and have flexible hours possibly working early mornings, late nights and weekends
