Job Summary:

We are seeking a Director to lead our Governance team. This role will drive strategy and oversight for governance initiatives and is supported by analysts tasked with implementing controls and processes across our data ecosystem to regulatory and legal compliance. This position requires collaboration and partnership across a diverse group of stakeholders including Legal, Infosec, Data and Engineering serving as a key contributor to the success of our overall data analytics strategy

Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution (DMED) brings together the Company’s best-in-class product, technology, and commercialization teams together into one global organization. DMED is responsible for the P&L management and all distribution, network and engineering operations, sales, advertising, data, and certain key technology functions worldwide for the Company’s content engines. DMED also manages operations of the Company’s streaming services including Disney+, Hulu, ESPN+ and Disney+ Hotstar; and domestic broadcast and cable television networks.

Responsibilities:

  • Proactively drive the vision for scaling data integrity and compliance across the BI and data architecture platforms including our product verticals, and define and execute on a plan to achieve that vision.
  • Set strategic direction for data governance initiatives for our global streaming products (Disney+, ESPN+ and Star+) spanning data quality, data access controls, external and internal legal compliance and data sharing.
  • Build cross-functional relationships with Data Analysts, Data Scientists, Product Managers, and Engineers to understand and deliver oversight, execution, scalability, regulatory compliance and audit capabilities
  • Manage managers as well as analysts responsible for compliance, governance and privacy initiatives for highly sensitive datasets being generated by our streaming platforms
  • Serve as a go-to executive contact for technical and non-technical stakeholders for process and guidance surrounding important compliance issues such as data access, data usability and data sharing
  • Represent data quality and compliance interests of our product, engineering, legal, and information security teams in discussions with internal and external data partnerships globally as a subject matter expert on the toolkit and roadmap for data integrity, protection and consent management.
  • Provide strategic direction required for consent management preferences as mandated by GDPR for ongoing or new international launches working with legal and engineering
  • Own and preset results of governance audits to senior leadership including recommendations and steps for remediation
  • Provide support to marketing partners and stakeholders to ensure compliance with external data integrations and audience segmentation for marketing purposes
  • Establish and execute requirements and processes for usability of datapoints as determined by data quality compliance processes
  • Develop a deep understanding of the systems and business processes that populate critical systems with data.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 10+ years of experience in data analytics, data science, data architecture
  • 4+ years of experience in data governance, data management, data ethics, or data privacy compliance
  • 4+ years of experience managing a team, ideally one with technical analysts
  • Strong sense of ownership over deliverables
  • Strong experience in drafting of frameworks or policies to minimize business risk or regulatory exposure
  • High familiarity with data platforms and applications such as Databricks, Jupyter, Snowflake, Redshift, Airflow
  • Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills – written, visual, and verbal presentations
  • Strong analytical skills to troubleshoot complex issues, analyze the cause, quickly come-up with the possible solution(s), document the changes, and communicate the change across the organization
  • BA or BS in a quantitative field (Business, Math/Statistics, Economics, CS, Engineering, or similar) is desired

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of Python, Spark or SQL
  • Minimum two years of experience in the technology industry, knowledge of streaming datasets and regulatory frameworks a plus.

Preferred Education

  • BA or BS in a quantitative field (Business, Math/Statistics, Economics, CS, Engineering, or similar) is desired
