The Walt Disney Company’s Direct-to-Consumer and International segment (DTCI) is a global, multiplatform media, technology and distribution organization for high-quality content created by Disney’s Studio Entertainment and Media Networks groups.
DTCI includes Disney’s international media operations and the Company’s direct-to-consumer businesses globally, including the upcoming Disney-branded direct-to-consumer streaming service, the Company’s ownership stake in Hulu, and the ESPN+ sports streaming service, programmed in partnership with ESPN. BAMTECH Media, developer of the ESPN+ and Disney-branded streaming platforms, oversees all consumer-facing digital technology and products across the Company as part of the Direct-to-Consumer and International segment.

Responsibilities:The Direct-to-Consumer group at Walt Disney is seeking a Director of Business Operations for FiveThirtyEight. The Director is the business lead for one of the most innovative and influential brands in journalism. You’ll work in close collaboration with FiveThirtyEight’s editorial leadership to help run and grow the existing business, as well as identify new areas for expansion.
The job requires sharp focus on FiveThirtyEight’s business imperatives while coordinating with teams across ABC News and the broader Walt Disney Company, including advertising sales, product and engineering, business development, marketing, and analytics. The ideal candidate combines experience systematically growing digital media businesses with an entrepreneurial spirit and a track record of driving innovation and change at an organization.
- Run Business Operations – Ensure support for editorial teams and initiatives. This includes being the primary point of interaction with technology vendors, legal and business development, marketing and advertising sales teams.
- Optimize and grow the core business – Optimizing ad revenue on the site, FiveThirtyEight podcasts, and on distributed platforms. Help scale other revenue streams such as live events.
- Build new businesses – working hand-in-hand with editorial leadership, identify, model, pitch, and build new business lines for FiveThirtyEight that leverage the team’s expertise and the brand’s remarkable audience loyalty and trust.
- 8-10 years in digital media operations or business development
- Operational experience in digital media or subscription businesses
- Ease with financial forecasting and modeling
- Strong collaborative skills and the ability to build consensus
- Analytical mindset with the ability to derive insights and recommendations from data
- Strong presentation skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills
- BA/BS required
- MBA preferred
