Job Summary:

ABC NEWS has an opening for a NEWS TECHNICAL SPECIALIST within the News Acquisition Center. Responsibilities include maintaining technical infrastructure of 24/7 operations center, identifying new technologies and providing on-site technical support for department staff. Candidates should be able to troubleshoot Windows/Mac OS related issues and possess strong networking skills. Candidate should also be able to provide Tier 1 and 2 level phone/email support for global news gathering teams. Candidate must also possess deep knowledge of video streaming technologies, including IP video encoding/decoding hardware and software.

Candidates will be expected to work with in-house technical staff to provide feedback and design networking/application solutions for news coverage as well as perform day to day responsibilities of booking traditional news gathering transmissions.

Candidates should be able to work in a fast-paced, Newsroom environment. This position requires flexible hours and some travel for breaking/planned news events.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support to NAC department staff as well as remote News staff members. This includes but not limited to support/troubleshooting of both live and filed based newsgathering workflows.
  • Engage with internal engineering maintenance and support teams to support internal workflows.
  • Support/maintain IT infrastructure (IP transmission technologies) that is on air criticial that resides both on premises as well as at remote locations.
  • Provide onsite IT support for breaking/planned news event – IP transmission, desktop support

Basic Qualifications:

  • Provide technical support to NAC department staff as well as remote News staff members. This includes but not limited to support/troubleshooting of both live and filed based newsgathering workflows.
  • Engage with internal engineering maintenance and support teams to support internal workflows.
  • Support/maintain IT infrastructure (IP transmission technologies) that is on air criticial that resides both on premises as well as at remote locations.
  • Provide onsite IT support for breaking/planned news event – IP transmission, desktop support

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of IT or Desktop Support/System Administration
  • Experience working on a 1st Tier technical support team or in a call center environment
  • Strong fundamental knowledge in networking protocols and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with distributed computing environment concepts; local and network based user and group accounts and permissions
  • In-depth knowledge of and the ability to perform remote troubleshooting on Mac OS, Chrome OS, Windows, Linux, and various applications including Office
  • Experience with Live Streaming, Transcoding, CDN’s, and IP Transmission technologies.

Required Education

BA/BS degree or equivalent experience
