Job Summary:

The Walt Disney Company has launched ESPN+ in 2018 and has amassed 2 million+ subscribers in a record time. In 2019, we launch Disney+, a streaming service featuring an incomparable collection of content from the Disney brands and franchises recognized and respected all over the world. The direct-to-consumer (DTC) service will serve as the exclusive home for viewing original movies, series, short-form, and more; all spanning from classic Disney Animation to the most recent movie releases.

Disney Streaming Advanced Research (DSAR) is part of Disney Streaming Services, the division responsible for the complete technical platform for the Disney DTC offerings. The DSAR team pioneers advanced application features to be enjoyed and loved by millions of viewers.

Disney Streaming Services is looking for an experienced Principal UX Designer within Advanced Research (DSAR). The team works on consumer facing features for Disney+ and ESPN+. Reporting to the Product & Research Director within DSAR, the UX Architect will focus on designing prototype experiences that leverage voice interaction, augmented reality, synchronous viewing, and machine learning.

Responsibilities:

At any one time there are several projects in development by the team and some in pre-development. In the pre-development state, ideation and design thinking are the key skills. In development, executing wireframe features and screens that can be used by developers, and maintaining quality control on the demo implementation will fill your day. You will manage and create the user experience for all ongoing projects and prototypes.

The team works across web, tablet, mobile & connected devices (TV) - providing high fidelity interactive prototypes for proof of concepts, executive demos for presentations and live events.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of design experience including: Product Design, User Experience, UI, and Visual Design
  • Experience providing direction for team & ability to collaborate across multiple projects
  • Strong understanding of complex UX/UI behaviors and interactions on many different platforms.
  • Comfortable preparing graphics for prototypes and presentations.
  • Experience communicating concepts and findings to internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Self-starter who does not have to be supervised in order to produce results.
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and intermittent requirement changes
  • Experience on working hands-on with engineers to create the best results as a team

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Front End Design and Development with React & Javascript & CSS
  • Passion to work with teams to bring product experiences to ‘life’!
  • Experience with video editing: from storyboarding and motion design
